How do I restore my previous Windows operating system without a disk? -

I downloaded Windows 7 recently but I am having major problems regarding drives and drivers. I would like to restore my Windows Vista Home Premium OS, but it was preinstalled on my computer and my computer didn t have a disk. I have a Gateway GM5664 and have already backed up my hard drive for when the time comes to restore my files. Help with my dilemma would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry with out a Recovery cd your screwed . You are going to call gateway and see if they can send you a recovery disk DONT tell them you installed a Beta OS. This is why you need to read you manual. It clearly states YOU NEED to make your own recovery cds with the recovery WIZARD in Xp. Windows 7 IS NOT A Full OS it is BETA .

Hi Joshua A, My name’s Ron. I work on the Windows Outreach Team. Some laptops that were shipped without actual discs have had this problem. I’d suggest checking this page for next steps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246. It’s the Microsoft support site and can get you on the road to obtaining a recovery disc. Also, depending on the manufacturer of your laptop and when it was purchased, you may have recovery software located in a partition on your hard drive. Did you notice a partition in your drive when you were installing Windows 7? You won t have any luck using a disc that you create from another computer, sorry. I hope this helps a bit. Feel free to reach out if you have anything else. Cheers, Ron
