Whats the point in Microsoft pulling the plug on allowing people to download Windows 7 Beta? -

Surely if they were to leave it available it would promote better public relations. Your thoughts LUg.

probably only let so many copies out

They pulled the plug because all the proper testers have already downloaded it so its an unneccessary storage on server

They need to stop the flow of downloads so they can properly process the feedback being submitted by existing users in preparation for producing the final public release version. Those currently running Windows 7 will find it will suddenly vanish in August as testing comes to an end.

I heard that their servers were having problems dealing with all the people downloading, so I assume that has something to do with it. But at least they re still letting people register for serials.

Two reasons one they had good results with the first beta that they aren t having another one they are going straight to the Release Candidate so they believe they don t need the publics input. Secondly since the Beta is so good and if anyone could download it legally what would be the point of buying the finished product when they could use the Beta for free?

Microsoft wants always people to think that their products are valuable and precious but really they aren t letting windows 7 available for more time won t make people think so but they want them to still get it via torrents or whatever means and they will and they are going to release the price tag (in august ) so they don t want it to available via their site I agree also to the answer that they got the testing they think they need

Any MS beta s are only available for a month, but this time they extended it for an extra month, now it is closed, they didn t get all the data need in the first month, now they have what they want and need, W7 next problem will be compatibility with the software, like always there is going to be some of that. so people will have to pay to upgrades being proprietary software it will be at a high price. in other words a money making factor for the proprietary software companies, Ho well one day MS users will wake up to the fact that windows is a rip off, along with the proprietary application software, and they will never stop spending to keep their systems going, Having said that Linux will become well know within the next year It is now being used on mobil phones and is traveling faster than a wild fire out of control, MS have said that through the economical down turn they have had to make 15,000 job cuts, that s not the real reason is the number of people downloading Linux, and with well over 25,000 professional free application software packages and games that s a plus for Linux

Good responses to your question LuG- Its more or less a server thing, and honestly, MS doesn t need all that much input on this Beta. They do have a good product with this, and they are ready to start packaging it. As much as I would like to agree about the comment re: Linux, just can t. If Linux ever truly threatens MS, they will simply file suite against the users for using patented s-ware of MS s. That s another debate.,
