Why doesnt Microsoft make Windows 7 64bit only? -

Why are they making a 32bit version as well? Id think it be better if it were 64bit only so all the apps can work flawlessly.. because some 32bit apps on Vista/Xp dont work on the 64bit versions.. just a thought..

Because of cross-compatibility, most people have 32-bit processors. I think the same thing, but I am sure the day will come when it will all be 64-bit. As computer gaming and data applications progress, it will be a must, 64-bit processing with higher physical memory addressing and the ability to handle twice as much information at one time than 32-bit processing. Running 32-bit my system can utilize 4GB of RAM, Running 64-bit my system can use 8GB of RAM.

One comment on Zero X...the 32-bit utilizing 4Gb is true, but 64-bit can, in theory, address 16 exabytes of RAM, however, there s no such thing as a quot;truequot; 64-bit, instead only using 48, due to modern technology, setting an artificial ceiling of around 64Gb of (overly excessive) RAM Report Abuse

May be you should buy everyone a 64-bit PC, not every one can afford it, besides, Microsoft sees a larger market in 32-bit processors, until 32-bit processors are obsolete, Microsoft will start just selling 64-bit builds. Windows 7 s build number is 6933, and will be released for beta when it is 7000 (soon). During December 2008, you ll be able to download give-out trials for absolutely free. You can download Windows 7 6801 on BTJunkie via P2P torrent.

Because it wouldn t run on 80% of the computers out there. Most computers still use 32bit processors. Only the newer computers have 64 bit processors.

You need a lot of memory to take advantage of the 64-bit processor.

What the first guy said. They ll lose some customers.
