I had win xp and fedora on my hdd. What I did, was format a different partition for fedora. And then I just introduced the CDs with fedora. There, Disk Druid reformatted the whole thing. Also during the OS installation I was asked if I wanted GRUB installed and how I wanted it configured (booting windows default , or fedora if I choose that). Some of my classmates though, used a virtual machine, which ran under windows, to switch to fedora.
Have a look at this site, there are screenshots of the install process. There don t seem to be any difficulties, you can either partition your hard drive using a windows partitioning programme before you install Fedora or you can let Fedora do it for you during the install process, the only thing to watch if you pre partition your drive is to be carefull which partition you choose to install Fedora on, it should be easy to follow. You should be able to accept the default install to get a dual boot system. The only configuration you need to with Grub is to check box the OS you want to boot into by default. It will be OK to install Grub to your MBR, the only thing to remember is that if you reinstall XP the MBR will be overwritten and Grub will be lost, this won t damage your Fedora partition but you will need to reinstall Grub (not difficult) to be able to boot into Fedora.
When you install Fedora a wizard will take you through the necessary steps of setting up a dual boot at the end of the installation process. After it has been installed you will be presented with a menu that offers you a choice of operating systems to boot from.
