How to Install Windows 7 onto a Virtual PC without scrapping a Vista Installation.? -

I just downloaded the Windows 7 Beta 1 32bit edition and burned it to a disk. I have Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 installed onto Windows Vista. I began to install Windows 7 onto a virtual hard disk, until I was prompted whether I should Upgrade my version of Windows, or do a Custom installation. I do not know which choice I should choose. I do not want to get rid of Vista, and want 7 to be installed onto the Virtual Hard Disk. Should I choose Custom? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Don t worry, this is just how the installation starts, just make sure you are running it on the virtual machine. You should choose custom since there is no version to upgrade. Just follow the on screen instructions.

you can use a new partition. It s easy and you can easily delete it afterward. Google would provide a better explanation, but what you need to do is this: 1. in the search bar in vista type quot;computer managementquot; 2. Go to the quot;disk managementquot; tab on the side. 3. right click on a partition (try the biggest) and click quot;shrink volumequot; 4. If you re just trying it, only partition 10 or 20 GB. It will be close enough if you type in 10000 or 20000. After it s done shrinking, when you go to install windows 7, install it on the new partition. 5. If you re worried about your computer getting effed up, go to acronis and download their recovery thing, then do a complete disk backup. That will put everything back no matter what.
