Do you think that companies will switch from Windows XP to Windows Vista or Windows 7? -

Most companies use windows XP as there operating system. Do you think that they will switch over to windows vista, or window 7(when they release the final version)?

It depends. I work at a major university (35,000 students and around 10,000 faculty/staff) and we re switching to Vista. My department hasn t yet because we have a lot of outdated hardware, but we ve tested it and all of our apps, including in-house apps, run fine. Those of us in tech support switched last summer and have had no problems. We re planning to start installing Vista for volunteers this spring and put it on all new PCs this summer. Windows 7 isn t due out until 2010 or later, and Vista has some security features that we really like. When 2010 or 2011 rolls around we ll probably hav a mixture of XP, Vista and Windows 7. We had a guy who went Mac crazy, so we now have about 30 Macs, but they ve been a horrible failure due to lack of support from Apple. I ve been pushing Linux but we run lots of custom VB apps (which I don t want to have to rewrite) and small apps with no Linux equivalents so it s really not practical.

While it ll be a while before anything definitive appears in the corporate sector, most companies are hold out for Windows 7 since Windows Vista as serious disappointed some companies that has high system requirements. I ve heard that one company test drove Vista on one of their system (as a stress test) amp; it fried the motherboard with normal business use. HOWEVER, some companies (usually the smaller businesses) are jettisoning Windows for Linux in retaliation (amp; cost-cutting measures). Please be aware that I m speculating here on information that I ve read amp; know... but it s still speculation.

There have actually been numerous reports of companies switching from Vista back to Windows XP. Not only that, a growing number of companies and individuals are switching away from Microsoft altogether and choosing a Linux-based operating system instead.

Vista was failure and Windows 7 is expected to be failure.

No they re switching over to Linux, a more superior O/S! (By the droves! You have to get past the Microsoft marketing hype, and look for the truth!)

Not if they have any brains.
