I get the impression, from what I know of Vista and what I ve read of Win7 that, in part but not in whole, Microsoft are attempting to emulate certain infrastructure features of *nix operating systems. It seems telling. I also think that the development of Windows 7 constitutes an admission that Vista is essentially a failed project. I distinctly remember the claim that Vista would be the last desktop OS version released by Microsoft, with all that followed being enhancements and updates to it. Hopefully we are seeing the end of Microsoft s power. I don t want them to vanish completely, I do not deny that they have made a number of important contributions to computers over the last couple of decades, but I ll cheer when they lose their dominant position.
If Windows 7 is a complete rewrite from ground up and don t have the bugs of current Vista. Microsoft will be more powerful. Otherwise, many people will swtich to Linux.
That company will still have the same market as it has now. People will keep using Windows as they do now. Maybe I ll go and buy a genuine copy of 7 too.
Windows 7 will either make or break Microsoft as we know it, hopefully the latter. LUg.
