Is it worth it to get windows vista if windows 7 is coming out? -

it is said to be better than vista.

It is a _polished_ version of Vista, with all the annoyances and bugs ironed out. It will not be out for quite some time -- if MS releases it that early, they would be cutting into their own profits from sales of Vista. It s worth getting only if you are getting it as part of your new computer system (NB: when you buy a new computer, your probably forced to use it anyway). If you plan to upgrade your existing OS, I d say stick with XP. There is nothing you can t already do with it, unless you want to unlock the full potential of your DX10 graphics card if you have one.

Vista, like Windows ME was designed as a quot;stop gapquot;, like quot;throwing the dog a bonequot; to keep it satisfied for awhile. Forget about vista if you think you ll be upgrading to windows 7 when it comes out. Also, before you upgrade to anything, make sure you understand all the caveats that go with the new OS. For instance, many peripherals that XP would install would be rejected by Vista as quot;unsignedquot;, and so such things as your printer, your monitor, your video card and sometimes even your sound card would need to be replaced when upgrading to Vista. I don t know what kinds of caveats and problems will abound with windows 7, but I wouldn t recommend going with the first edition, in either case, but wait till some of the bugs get worked out and the first service pack or two are available.

Windows 7 won t be coming out in a while so you have to wait a considerable amount of time (minimum time anticipated is 3 years). But in counterpart of other people that have answered this question I would like to suggest you buy Windows Vista. Windows XP will no longer be provided with updates after about 6 months, meaning that it will have major security flows and will quit quickly be incompatible to the newest software on the market. Besides you can manage Vista s settings so it doesn t really take up that much RAM and processing time.

Get Vista, operating systems aren t that expensive especially if you go to the right places to buy them, unless you re willing to hold on to a hundred dollars for the next 2 years. Try this site, I m getting vista right now because they have operating systems for $200 or less, depending on which one you choose. (Other places may sell for more) www.newegg.com Also, Windows 7 may have some problems like vista when it comes out. It ll take another few months for the problems to be fixed, or maybe even longer.

Windows 7 is said to be coming out around early 2010. In the meantime, XP is the best option in my opinion. It is a much more stable operating system. The main reason people try using Vista is so that they can use DirectX 10 on their graphics cards, and that isn t much of a reason. Any advantage it might have is lost by the enormous amount of RAM memory it uses running unnecessary tasks in the background.

I see no reason to wait. quot;Microsoft has shared publicly that IE 7.0 will be focused primarily on improving security. Company officials said recently that Microsoft plans to make IE 7.0 available to Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 and Windows XP Professional x64 users. A first beta of IE 7.0 is due out this summer.quot;

Windows Vista is fine if you have more than 2GB RAM. But stick with XP for now. Apparently Windows 7 is supposed to be faster so i d wait until it comes out. I ll certainly be buying Windows 7 anyway. Am currently running Vista but seriously regretting upgrading form XP!

No, in fact, it s not worth it to get Vista even if 7 is delayed for years. I run both Vista and XP, and XP is much better and faster.

First of all, I d consider you a lucky person for not having windows vista. XP is much better. So no, don t get vista, wait for 7.

I personally find Vista to be superior to XP, we also use Mac os 10 a lot and I still prefer Vista. There is usually an upgrade path with microsoft, so I would go ahead and use Vista now.

Windows 7 is years away yet, so it is probably worth gettin vista. But a lot of people find Vista annoying, so the best thing is probably to stick with Windows XP :)

tired of windows. try linux; ubuntu especially. qoogle ubuntu and ubuntu forum

Go Mac
