No way. If I test it for no charge, I am willingly let them take my labour for free and they will in turn use it to charge me when I want to use the OS or for that reason anybody else wants to use the OS. If they agree to give me a copy of the OS free of cost(I will pay if I like it, as many did in Radiohead s recent album); they promise to let me have the complete source code for every single bug that I help them discover, under a GPL3 or a license compatible with GPL3. If that sounds like I m asking for much, it is because beta testing Windows is asking for even more. I d rather use Debian unstable (or experimental branch) and report Debian every single bug that I come across. Same goes for Fedora or Slackware or Ubuntu as well.
You guys are missing the point. Beta testing is a CHOICE. Now, I don t like betas either, but there is a few good things about them, like you can help tell Microsoft what YOU want them to fix, and maybe they ll fix it. You get a little know-how, so you get to be ahead, and it can be cool. Report Abuse
I m betting many of you guys have never even used a recent copy of Vista. Based on the looks from your answers. Report Abuse
I ve been a beta tester for both Apple and the Kubuntu variant of Ubuntu Linux for some time now, I might branch out to Windows 7 because I know two other people who ve gotten their hands on it and it s slick. Report Abuse
Thought about it, but it doesn t seem like too much fun. With all the different versions of Windows Vista out there, it will be interesting to see what they do with Windows 7. Will they have something like Home Basic, Home Advanced, Windows 7 Supreme Ultimate Media Edition?
Yes I probably will beta test Windows 7 as I did with Vista, however I wont be in a hurry to rush out and buy it like I did with Vista. I am not getting caught twice, anyhow ive got Ubuntu 7.10 now as you know, what more could anyone ask for.
Hi, I may try out Windows 7 using virtual box or something. I have a Linux system currently and it will be fun to see what Microsoft has been up to. Good Luck!
Nah, I don t have enough time to deal with that crap. I didn t beta test Vista either. I ll stick with my xp laptop, and ubuntu desktop.
No Mr. Billionaire gates can pay for his own Guinea pigs. If Microsoft makes it totally open source then ya probably.
