Ideally, you dual boot it with XP.
Windows 7 is not a shell it s an operating system If you have Xp installed you must install Win 7 as a (clean) installation.. which means wipe out hdd. first of all you computer must be compatible with vista and have more than 700mb of ram if you want it to be fast after the installation, and i think that it does replace you winxp.
You can not install Windows 7 on an XP machine, it is a shell for Vista OS only... Sorry Man.
