Windows 7 on windows 98 PC? -

Ok, i want to install the new Windows 7 beta on my old windows 98 PC, but after i downloaded the iso and burned it to a disc. I inserted the disc into my old PC and then nothing happened. What do I do to get Windows 7 to install? PLEASE HELP FAST!!!! Thanks

Make sure that old system meets these BARE MINIMUM requirements or it will not run: 1GHz processor (32- or 64-bit) 1GB of main memory 16 GB of available disk space DX9 graphics card with 128MB of memory DVD Drive

If you are running Win98, your PC is probably going to be sluggish at best; even though it s optimized vs Vista, it still uses a lot of resources. Make sure you meet hte specs given at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... . You will usually have to go into your BIOS at boot-up and tell the computer to load from the CD-ROM drive first, rather than the hard drive. Alternatively, there s usually a key to press during boot for boot options, to sleect the CD. If it s like Vista/XP, you ll be asked to press a key to boot from CD, which you should, and then it will load. With an older PC and less RAM, it will probably take a while to copy everything over and then start the install process.

I d guess you have inadequate RAM, you lack a DVD reader, or you failed its CPU check. Perhaps all of the above. I d suggest it will need a minimum of 512MB of RAM, 10GB of disk space, a DVD reader, plus a Pentium 4 or Athlon over 1.2GHZ or so. To really use it, a minimum of 1GB of RAM and a 2+GHZ CPU, and more unless you re really patient. Needs about the same as Vista, really. Try Windows 2000, instead, but even THAT might necessitate a RAM upgrade.

It won t work beacuse you computer has to have Windows XP, XP PRO or Vista pre-installed, so you can upgrade it. The system requirements for Windows 98 will not meet the requirements for Windows 7. 2GHz processor (32- or 64-bit) 2GB of main memory 20 GB of available disk space DX9 or 10 graphics card with 128MB of memory DVD/CD RW combo Drive

I don t think windows 7 can run on a machine that was designed for windows 98. The min requirements for Windows 7 is a 1 ghz processor and 1 gb of ram and even with these specs it will probably run very slow as these are the min specs. I would check you machine first to see if it has these specs.

a 1998 computer? chance are the problem is that your computer doesn t meet the requirements for it to even install. It suggested that you have a 2ghz processor with atleast 1 gb of ram. Both of which I doubt you have.

you have to go to the BIOS before the PC boots into windows 98 and set it so it boots in from the disc drive instead of the hard drive.

Is this a joke? Chances are the disc wasn t burnt with the right settings or the BIOS settings on the computer need to be changed but either way it doesn t matter because Windows 7 isn t gonna run on a machine made last century.

A lot of 98 pc s did not have bootable atapi cdrom. Think about using newer hardware, you will need at least 1 gigabyte ram for version 7

Your 98 pc will not have the hardware requirements to install it.

ahhhh i dont htink your harddrive is compatible. not to mention your processor is like a dinosaur.

Well, its probably because the computer is old. Its only meant for computers with Vista, or XP at the least.

Your OLD pc is not going to be supported very well, if at all with WIN7. Time to face reality and get a new pc.
