If you have some generic x86 architecture, then yes, it is compatible. The fact that you have Windows 7 installed at the moment would not make a difference. Are you sure you have an actual Windows XP installation disc rather than merely a Service Pack upgrade disc? The Service Pack disc doesn t actually contain the entire OS, so you can t install from it. It sounds to me like you ve inserted the disc but failed to boot from it and then accidentally proceeded to load Windows 7 from your hard drive. Ensure that 1st boot priority is set to CD/DVD-ROM in your BIOS settings so that you can actually boot from your full copy of the Windows XP installation disc.
I had nothing but problems with service pack 3 to the point I had to run 2 recovery programs. My advice is stay away from SP3. Also, older computers can t handle it anyway.
