Which do you think would be better Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Windows 7? -

Jon, I like your thought process. True, Windows with all of it s flaws (and believe me there are a few), is still the most market worthy OS. I say Windows 7, and here is why: Apple is doing the same thing that IBM did three decades ago and it nearly cost them their entire market share. Although proprietary software/hardware configurations provide a high degree of security and stability, providing the manufacturer with a good lock on return business and maintenance revenue, it still remains very costly to the end user. Although Microsoft the OS are not completely open source like Linux, it still allows after market manufacturers access to the core, keeping the market competitive, and making computing affordable to the average Joe. Mind you, I still never upgrade my OS to the latest version until it is completely out of BETA, however I hold firm to the belief that the Microsoft OS is the strongest thing going. Vista was a marketing nightmare as it was released onto the public a bit too soon, and did not allow the peripheral manufacturers time to get up to speed prior to its release, but I think it was and still is a very good OS. Microsoft learned from this and has made several corrections. Proprietary manufacturing and marketing is only for the elitists and very well-to-do. It is tantamount to business suicide when you look at the market as a whole. Therefore, I stand on my belief that the new Microsoft product and future products will be the best thing going for a long time to come. I still have faith that Bill Gates and his crew will provide the public with the best overall product for the majority of the population. It all comes down to money. If only 10-15% of the market buys your product, and you are forced to outspend the competition in advertizing by a factor of 3:1 just to stay in the game, it is a bad thing. If you find my figures hard to swollow, just turn on the TV and count the MAC commercials vs. PC. Microsoft doesn t need a huge marketing budget at this point, it s well established and the supergeeks who write the code most likely still show up to work in bluejeans and T-shirts when they can. The links below all shout praises about how superior Mac OS is over Microsoft, and they all predict that Apple will be King of the market very soon, but these claims have been announced repeatedly for the last 25 years. I am still waiting for the Apple prophecy to prove itself. You would think that after all those years Apples marketshare would have at least topped 25%. I rest my case. Microsoft rules the roost, at least for now.

A difficult question to answer because windows 7 beta is out but it is just a beta. Snow leopard beta isn t out. I will upgrade my Macbook Pro to snow leopard and i will most likely install Windows 7 on it too providing that it is a good OS so far Windows 7 beta has proven to be quite an experience an happy with it but hoping the finished product is just as good. Snow Leopard will be awesome too it cant deviate too much from OSX its just going to be a few enhancements in my opinion and i hear it is 64bit capable.

Since Apple still charge so much for their products and neglected to update key hardware (Mac Mini for example), I see it hard for them to promote Snow Leopard outside of the Mac community. Windows 7 is easily obtainable, and most people in these times would think with their wallet. $700 PC or $1500 Mac? That s the real question. If they opened OSX up, it d be great, but then it d probably mean the end for Apple s hardware business.
