Windows 7 is the new version of Windows that will replace Vista. The beta version was made available for free download in order to track down bugs before the official release. Such a version will definitely not be fully functional and is likely to cause a lot of problems for unaware users. It is best to leave it to experienced and IT users until the final release.
Ok, if you want to try windows 7 this is what you need to do, but first some info on it... Windows 7 is the new OS after Vista. Like Vista was to XP, Windows 7 will be to Vista. It s got a slightly different interface, and it s supposed to run much better on older systems. It s also supposed to be more stable and basically better all around. So, if you want to try it, you re going to want to partition your hard drive. This sounds hard, but it isn t. Go to your toolbar (in vista) and type quot;Computer Managementquot; into the search. click it or press enter, and look on the left at the part that says quot;Disk Management.quot; Click it, and when everything loads, you ll want to click on the partition with your OS on it. It should be the biggest, or the only one there (it depends. If you have Dell Media direct, give up because it takes a Looooooooot of extra work to get it off and windows 7 on). Right click it, and click quot;shrink volume.quot; When it asks for a size, try to do it by at least 10GB, I suggest 20. The easiest and quickest way is just put quot;20000quot; and it will be close enough. Then, after you download windows 7 (google it and go to the microsoft page) you ll need to burn it onto a DVD. I suggest using IMGBURN (it s like DVD decrypter, but legal). Then restart your computer with the disc in. Hopefully it will come up. When you install it, do it on the new partition you created. There! It should be active til august, and everything should work.
It s a beta. This means it s being tested by anyone who installs it. It will be unstable and have security holes, among other issues. Be sure to install it on a computer you don t care about, and don t put any important data on it. Beta versions have been known to do things like erase your hard drive.
