Vista to Windows 7 Upgrade? -

So I bought a year ago the full ultimate version of windows vista. Of course Windows XP was the newest MS OS for almost 6 years (i think) so I assumed Vista would have a similar time line (guess its following the Windows ME timeline...). So now after 2 years (maybe less) my OS will be outdated when Windows 7 is released because its junk and Microsoft decided to basically trash it and move on. I read about the FREE upgrade, but it seems that is only for participating OEM copies sold from some month in 2009 and on. So I m going to have to dish out the full price for a new OS after less than 2 years because Microsoft realized the OS was beyond saving and moved onto something new? Am I correct with this? Even though I m sure Vista will still work and be supported for a while. If its bad enough to move on so quickly it should be considered bad enough to give existing customer who own vista the new version.

i think when vista first came out and it had problems most xp users were afraid to change then sp1 fixed most problems with vista and the more people that are using it like it and windows 7 is like vista just better and both should be around a while since both are far better than xp

XP was actually an anomaly. Prior to XP, Microsoft released a new OS every 2-3 years. Think about it - Windows 95 was released in 1995. Windows 98 was released in 1998. Windows 2000 was released in 2000. They re simply trying to get back to their old release schedule. Windows 7 is scheduled to be released in 2010, three years (or more, depending upon the actual release date) after the release of Vista. It s still slightly slower than their old schedule, but getting closer. They ll probably try to release the next version of the OS in 2012 or 2013.
