Definitely XP. Your computer can handle 7, not too sure about the graphics card though. Probably you can t see aero, but XP is just stable. Windows 7 is touted to work on slower machines, be more compatible, and take up less space, and Vista/XP programs should work on it. When I used Windows 7, I thought it was awesome. Many of the things in XP and Vista that make you think quot;WTFquot; are corrected, and no doubt when it comes out, along with good advertising, it will seriously make people stop dissing microsoft and vista. But it s still a beta, and every once in a while SOMETHING happens, and you have no idea what. One of my most needed programs, DAEMON Tools, didn t work. Programs failing in Windows 7 have the following general issues: 1. It probably can work, but the program was designed to run on Vista/XP ONLY 2. It needs Vista/XP components that you just don t have. Drivers are also an issue. They are said to support more types of modern hardware, without you needing to install drivers. However if your drivers don t install, it just sucks. Also, if some programs don t work, damn, no forums or help services out there have support for Windows 7, it s so far away. Stick with XP for a while. When Windowws 7 comes out, do a bit of research, see how good it is, if it works with your computer and programs, wait at least a month, when all the big issues (if any) have been found, and go buy it! (or download legaly, ahem)
One of the staff members at www.stillaftermath.com has tested Windows 7 with a computer more advanced and was having problems with it. He had to downgrade back to XP but I wouldn t really call it a downgrade. Windows Vista failed to get the big push that XP has and I believe 4/5 PC s run XP over Vista. Our COO, aka Brent Peden, has reported that Windows 7 is pretty much exactly like Winodws Vista. I d say based on the specs and issues he was having with compatibility on most common software out there, stick to Windows XP and start enjoying your new PC!
Windows 7 is a beta product. That means it s not finished and is buggy. It also means that once the product is finished, you ll be stuck with the beta unless you buy 7. You re better off with XP, a proven product and the most solid version of Windows ever produced.
Do you want to test software for Microsoft, without being paid for it, and then have to reinstall your OS when the beta expires in about 6 months? If so, try Windows 7. Otherwise, stick with XP (or give Linux a go - http://ubuntu.com/ ).
7 is still in Beta, so highly advise you NOT to use it as your primary OS. Go with XP. Or better yet, Vista. It gets a bad rap, but it blows XP out of the water if you can adapt to it. And adaptation is required to follow the evolutions in the technical market...
XP Pro. There s no reason why you should use Windows 7 beta. They haven t even begun to figure out the security problems on that thing.
XP Pro would be the proven best bet.
