I have Ubuntu 7.10 and Windows Vista both. how do i remove the windows partition from and not damaging ubuntu? -

Sorry - i ran out of space above. I am running Vista Basic and Ubuntu 7.10 on the same hard drive. How do i remove/delete the windows partition using Ubuntu?

There are several ways to do what you are asking. It all depends on what you want the end result to be. You can remove the partition and Windows with it, or you can remove Windows and reclaim the space without deleting the partition. To remove the partition and Windows with it, boot from the Live CD and use the gparted program to remove the partition. Help on partitioning can be found here: http://www.easy-ubuntu-linux.com/ubuntu-... To remove Windows but not remove the partition, simply remove the files. In a terminal, type the following: cd lt;directory in which the Windows files are storedgt; sudo rm -fr * This will gut the directory tree of Windows while leaving the partition in tact. After doing either of these options, you will need to reconfigure Grub so that it no longer points to Windows. Help on how to do this can be found at: http://www.easy-ubuntu-linux.com/grub-me... Note: Nothing horribly wrong will happen if you leave Grub pointing to a non-existent Windows partition. The worse that will happen is no operating system will be detected, and you will need to reboot. If, however, Ubuntu is not listed in the Grub menu, you will not be able to access it without using the Live CD to edit the original Grub file by mounting the block devices to a mount point in the live CD session. Hope this helps.

go on the ubuntu.com site gt;gt;gt; support gt;gt;gt; comminuty gt;gt;gt; web forums ... and type in your question ... you will need to reinstall Grub laoder ( it may be the case) just type in teh exact same question on teh forums and you will get the answer. when i type ur question there.. i get more than 120 results :) ...

If you follow this tutorial, it should be fairly easy to achieve : http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.ph... Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux. LUg.
