Who has tried Windows 7 Beta? -

Windows released a beta build 7000 download of Windows 7 Ultimate on their website and I wanted to know what you all thought of it?

I m using build 7000 of Windows 7. I like it. I m dual booting it with Vista. I also like Vista. Windows 7 is very nice. It boots faster that Vista. It shuts down a lot Faster than Vista. I mean It shuts down in 8 seconds. My aunt is getting ready to buy a new laptop I told her to wait till Windows 7 is out. So far all programs I ve installed work good. IE8 is on it and it works ok. I m also using firefox and no problems with it. Chrome works but sometimes web pages do not come up and i have to hit the back button then click the link again to get them to load. The only program I had problems with was sandboxie it crashed the computer. I had to boot in to safe mode to uninstall it. Every program you install on Windows 7 microsoft put a send feedback at the top of the program. You click it and give them info on how that program runs. I think that a great idea. Makes it easy to report problems with software. They will be able to fix a lot of conflicts before the OS is released. So far Windows 7 is a winner.

Its very stable for a beta, im dual booting it with XP had no faults with it yet, runs pretty fast on my laptop which had Vista on it when bought new but it was to slow so went to XP but W7 is great

There are several ways to do what you are asking. It all depends on what you want the end result to be. You can remove the partition and Windows with it, or you can remove Windows and reclaim the space without deleting the partition. To remove the partition and Windows with it, boot from the Live CD and use the gparted program to remove the partition. Help on partitioning can be found here: http://www.easy-ubuntu-linux.com/ubuntu-... To remove Windows but not remove the partition, simply remove the files. In a terminal, type the following: cd lt;directory in which the Windows files are storedgt; sudo rm -fr * This will gut the directory tree of Windows while leaving the partition in tact. After doing either of these options, you will need to reconfigure Grub so that it no longer points to Windows. Help on how to do this can be found at: http://www.easy-ubuntu-linux.com/grub-me... Note: Nothing horribly wrong will happen if you leave Grub pointing to a non-existent Windows partition. The worse that will happen is no operating system will be detected, and you will need to reboot. If, however, Ubuntu is not listed in the Grub menu, you will not be able to access it without using the Live CD to edit the original Grub file by mounting the block devices to a mount point in the live CD session. VBA programming in excel is supported by Excel (and the other applications). The version of O/S you are running doesn t matter. I have the same ability on my XP, Vista and Windows 7 systems.

Windows 7 Beta 64-bit sound issue? -

I just installed the 64-bit Windows 7 Beta operating system on my laptop, but I cannot get the sound to work. I have a Gateway MX6445 Notebook. Please help me find the right driver(s) to install to make this work! If you need more info, let me know and I ll post it.

you installed 64 bit on a 32 bit system the drivers won t work on 64 bit since you don t have a 64bit computer

First and foremost you are highly unlikely to get answers on here for beta test software. Not enough people have as yet run full tests and countless driver problems are being sorted at this point in time. The best bet is to go direct to M/Soft and see if they can point you in the right direction. Incidentally my XP drivers worked perfectly on my W7 install so it s just a matter of luck really.

Will Windows 7 work on an old laptop? -

Will windows 7 work on a very old laptop that has windows xp?

Microsoft s official line is that if it will run Vista it will run Win7. current min requirements are 512mb RAM 16GB HDD 128mb graphics chip Though you couldn t expect Vista to run reasonable on 2GB of RAM. But then again some folks have got it running on Netops or 512mb RAM systems. Downlaod it, either the public beta or off Piratebay (not sure if that s illegal, its hte same version either way and same cut-off date), burn it to disc ( I d use CDburnerXP, though Nero will do if you have it),, make a partition and install it and see. if it doesn t work you ve lost nothing but a few pence on a DVD and some of your time. If it s an old spare laptop it may be worht jsut fully installing it, if it works then you have a now upto date laptop to give a test off Win7 on. Just be aware currently the quot;Upgradequot; option ( which all advise is not to use anyway as it replaces your current version of Windows) is only available form Vista SP1. Also some/many of the driver s that your laptop uses will be for XP, which uses a different driver manager than Vista and win7, so some things will not work properly in Win7. Vista and Win7 sue the same drivers. Also it will stop working ( both MS beta and Pirate bay beta) on 31st Aug.

I m thinking that if I can upgrade my system memory and those system requirements haven t changed very much by the time of the official release then I will get Windows 7 and install it on my current laptop. Rather than buy a whole new computer (which is what I d prefer to do if I had the money).

Actually, all posters that said no are wrong. Windows 7, unlike windows vista, was designed to run on very little system resources. This means that old hardware will be able to run windows 7, and definitely hardware that supports xp. Microsoft was motivated to make windows 7 run on little system resources because of the emerging netbook category. These small laptops, have weak processors and hardly any ram. Because windows vista cannot run on these machines, microsoft needed a new os besides xp that would run on these machines so that linux would not take over the netbook category. Don t listen to them, i ve heard accounts for probably 20 people that say they put it on their old laptops and it runs better than XP and vista combined.

Whats the word on Windows 7? ? -

I built my computer just 4 months ago, and had decided to go with windows Vista home Basic. Unfortunately I have had my own share of problems with vista. I just heard that microsoft has come up with a new OS, windows 7. I am wondeirng is that going to be any better? I have seen some reviews already, but I want to know what you guys have heard.

It is still in beta testing and won t be released until Aug./Sept (if all goes well). I will be a long time before they get the bugs out

Windows 7 is Microsoft’s successor to Windows Vista. At the moment Windows 7 is only in its beta stage and is not for use as a main OS on someone’s primary computer. If you are eager to try it out, you can either perform an upgrade installation from Vista (but be sure to back everything up) or a clean installation on a partitioned hard drive. If you do decide to try Windows 7 Beta, it will expire on Aug. 1, 2009 and you will have to reinstall your previous OS. Here are some links to take a look at before you make the decision. Windows 7 was released very quickly due to so many problems with Vista. People were demanding an upgrade from XP with less problems. Windows 7 appears to have many new, better features. There are however many problems. It doesn t always work 100% with iexplorer 8 or if the drivers are not completely updated. Overall I still think it is a good choice. Hope this helps

Where does Windows Internet Explorer 7 install when upgrading from version 6? -

I have upgraded and installed the Beta 7 version. As a result I lost the shortcut icon to Windows Internet Explorer fron my desk and I can′t find the download in order to create a new shortcut. Please help!

Search the Start menu. It should always be there.
