What if I dont like Windows 7 Beta? -

On the Beta s page, it says I will have to reinstall a previous version of Windows after the expiration date (August 1, 2009). I bought my pc with Vista preinstalled, so where would I get the install disc?

Your pc should have came with disks for re-installing all the software that came on it. If you don t have CD s, contact the manufacturer. They should be able to get them for you, it may or may not be free, but it shouldn t be much.

Don t forget that a re-install may mess up all the other programs and files on your computer, too. The people I know who do beta testing don t do it on their #1 personal computers. They have other computers just for testing.

When you purchased your computer, it should have came with an installation disk.

Do you think Windows 7 will be able to compete with Ubuntu+Compiz? -

it just goes to show you how crap vista is it is/was due to be replaced by windows 7 in 2009 not long a life for vista is it , but if it is anything like vista i think it will fail miserably. i think vista was realy released as a test bed for windows 7. i think i will stick to XP.

For use of system resources NO, but unfortunately with Microsoft s marketing Yes. It is a sad fact of modern computing that most people s knowledge of operating systems lies squarely with the machine they have bought off of the shelf. Almost all new computers at this time come pre-installed with Vista, leading to Microsoft claiming the success of their latest incarnation of Windoze despite poor take-up of people actually upgrading to it on older machines.Windows 7 will be based on Vista, which in itself copies features and applications that have been pioneered on Mac and Linux for a long time. Even IE7/8 only barely manages to keep up with Firefox and Opera. Before Vista was released (inflicted on people), I heard people who were eager to upgrade, based on solely Microsoft s marketing and guess what? I ve had the last laugh because I can say TOLD YOU SO . Now for the the sad bit. There are a number of Apps and Games that only work with Windoze (yes I know about Wine), some are XP(oop) and Vista only. Until Joe Public gets off of it s lazy gluteus maximus, everything related to personal computing will be dominated by Microsoft.

As long as it s less of a pain in the **** than Vista I don t care. I have actually thought of using Ubuntu instead of Vista. The only thing that stopped me was a lot of compatibility issues with some of my hardware. Although I m still curious. I was reading about Windows 7 a few days ago and according to what somebody wrote it s going to promise little and deliver a lot. The exact oppsite of Vista

Probably but not with Mint Linux or Fedora. Of course it will. Windows products are made to work without needing tweaking but Linux needs more knowledge to make it work.

Question about windows 7? -

ok i just ordered a laptop and it aviously comes with windows vista but what will happen with that when they release windows 7 will they release an edition for people that allready have vista or did i screw it up by buying the computer now?

Hi Jayme L, Nice work on the new laptop! My name’s Ron and I’m working on the Windows Outreach Team. We’re here to try and answer your Windows questions. As others here have said, Windows hasn’t had any official announcements about upgrade pricing or plans as they are still accepting Beta testers into the program for Windows 7. The program is almost full, so visit http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... to download the beta version and make sure to check out the tips for installation. As Beta testing comes to a close you can check http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... for the latest information. The FAQ located at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... is also a great place for general information. I hope this clarifies a few things for you. Enjoy your new PC! Cheers, Ron Windows Outreach Team

WINDOWS 7 BETA SO FAR,IS ALMOST A MIRROR IMAGE OF VISTA.IM ALSO RUNNING THE BETA 7000 BUILD OF WINDOWS 7 AND I AM ANSWERING YOUR QUESTION RIGHT NOW WITH THE WINDOWS 7 PC.DONT JUMP THE LINE JUST YET.WINDOWS 7 DOES NOT HAVE AN EMBEDDED E-MAIL CLIENT INSTALLED SO GOODBYE WINDOWS MAIL.THE ONLY OPTION FOR E-MAIL IS THE WINDOWS LIVE E-MAIL WHICH IS A JAZZED UP VERSION OF HOTMAIL.STICK WITH VISTA FOR NOW.ITS A BETTER OPERATING SYSTEM WITH AN EMAIL CLIENT(WINDOWS MAIL) INCLUDED IN THE SOFTWARE.ALSO THE TRAY ICONS IN WINDOWS 7 ARE A STEP BACK COMPARED TO VISTA OR XP.THEY ARE TERRIBLE LOOKING.IM SHURE AND HOPE THEY WILL UPGRADE THE WAY THESE ICONS LOOK BEFORE THE FINAL RELEASE WILL BE SOLD.IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT WINDOWS 7,YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CLEAN INSTALL ON VISTA OR XP WHEN THE FINAL RELEASE IS OUT.

There has been discussion that people buying Vista after a certain point will be able to get a free upgrade to W7. Unfortunately there are no details yet. Being eligible will have a lot to do with when W7 is released and, unfortunately it may only be for purchases after later this year. Call your sales person to see what option you have. They may be nice and since you just bought allow you to upgrade later. Can t hurt to ask. Otherwise, wait until W7 is close to release and listen for updates.

First of all, no one knows as the details of Windows 7 s release haven t been disclosed yet. Secondly, I personally believe that you should never wait for new technologies (unless perhaps if it s going to come out a week later or something... and even then that s a toss up). Third, Windows 7 might not come out for years, so you d be waiting for years for your laptop. The *expected* release is still a year away.

They will be giving a free or cheap upgrade to windows 7 depending on when you buy your laptop. They haven t released the details on it yet though so I couldn t really tell you. But if you don t direly need a new laptop I would wait a little while until more information becomes available.

Well, I m sure they re release an upgrade CD, which will cost more money. So you didn t necessarily screw up buying it now, but you would have been better off waiting if you re serious about Windows 7 (I m currently trying the beta and I like it). So no, it will not be free :).

you screwed up, though you can participate in microsoft s free windows 7 beta and there might be the possibility to upgrade at a reduced price later on the development line.

no u didnt screw up u can still use vista. as u might know there are people who still use xp. if you want windows 7 though u wil have to check with if ur computer is compatible. and then buy it reinstall it.

you have to buy a windows 7 cd seperately.

You will probably have to buy Windows 7. I don t know if they are giving out free upgrade coupons yet.

You will be able to buy it just like everybody else. VISTA was an upgrade from XP. XP wan an upgrade from Windows 98 Windows 98 was an upgrade from Windows 95, get the drift? All had to be purchased.

Installing an older OS (XP) over a newer (7) is not supported no matter what you installed over which when. Install Windows 7 again.

Hi Sonu K, Dual-booting Windows is common, but usually in the order of a newer OS being installed after an older OS. So, when you installed XP things reverted. Try this out: http://windowshelp.microsoft.c... Cheers, Ron Win Tea Report Abuse

IS it worth to use System Mechanic 7 on my windows vista home premium? -

Would you recomend to use this software? yes/no -why?What is your experience? Thanks

Your wish. My Win98 had crashed so I won t try it in XP.

Is Windows 7 Beta out for testing yet? -

If not, when is it supposed to come out? Also, when is it supposed to be released to everyone?

No it isn t, ignore the spammer in the previous post, also dont follow that link, it s malicious. anyways, It isn t out for beta, YET. I do know a few people with it, as certain places had a beta available for dev s and IT prof s and what not. If you go to the site, listed below, I think you can sign up to be notified when it is available... Im pretty excited myself for it. The look and feel of Vista, and the low resources of XP with the support of 64 bit. They finally doin it right! :P (biggest problem with vista is it uses nearly 1GB (32bit) and 2GB (64bit) of RAM to run the OS, as opposed to XPs 256MB (32) and 128MB (64) plus Vista 32 and XP 32 only support 4000MB of RAM, vista 64 supports 8GB, whereas XP 64 supports 128 GB. XP 64 all the way! :D)

A pirated version of Windows 7 is available from some torrent sites. But i agree with Michael K, the official version of Windows 7 is not available. Report Abuse

How to set up a dual boot of Windows 7 and Vista? -

I assume it would be best to partition my hard drive so I don t get rid of Vista. Would it be better to install Windows 7 on my regular hard drive or my external one or is this possible? I have never set up a dual boot system and need to know how to do it without messing up my computer.

As far as i know, Windows can t installed on external hdd. If i m in your position, i will choose dual boot since windows 7 still in beta version (i m sure if beta still having an issue). Below this line is the resources how to dual boot windows 7 with xp or vista. Just follow each steps.

Simply make a partition for both Windows 7 and Vista. Windows 7 goes to partition one and Vista goes to partition two.

Can i run windows 7 beta on my xp computer? -

my xp computer is vista compatible and i have downloaded windows 7 beta. but everytime i load the setup and it begins to download it says that i need to be running vista and then tells me to go to custom setup which i did. this time it told me that it could not update the computer s boot configuration please help me! i need help asap!

yes but win7 sucks. here ill set you up a tutorial: http://lifehacker.com/5126781/how-to-dua...

You need to create a new partition if you want to know how to do that research it on Google or something. In Windows Vista and 7 there s a tool called DISKPART you have to launch Command Prompt by pressing Shift and F10 on a windows I forgot which one when Collecting Information but search it up. It allows you to make new partitions even on allocated ones. It bassicly allows you to unallocate free space on allocated space so you don t have to worry about losing data and formatting again. But if you use all the free allocated space Windows XP might have errors or say Less disk spaceo r oyu might end up with no space for XP so don t use all of the allocated space.

Your best bet would be to partition your hard drive and install the WIN 7 all by itself. It is very problematic as you have already experienced to run XP and Win 7 beta on the same drive. Best of luck!

Yes but you cannot upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. Your only option is to repartition your hard drive or reformat. In any case back up all data before you start messing around with installing Windows 7.

has anyone checked microsoft site i did 7 is beta in its test stages and will stop working in august

Can you go back to windows XP from windows 7 demo? -

if so, how?

Next time read up on windows 7. You are not to install it if you have windows xp, only those with windows vista could install it. Check in your add/remove in the control panel, it maybe listed there http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/inde...

Yes. Reformat your drive and install XP again.

Windows 7 beta install? -

I got the windows 7 public beta here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalc... and i want to install it on my main computer without loosing any data or anything. I have windows vista ultimate.... i know it says to install on a strictly testing computer but i don t have an extra computer... is i possible to partion the hard drive and install it on the smaller part that i make for it with out interfering with any of my other data? how do i do that? last thing: i heard that it might do something to my mp3s and i have a lot so would it still do that if i had the partitioned hard drive?

Yes, technically you could install it on a separate partition or drive. You also will need a boot manager, so you can designate which partition/OS to boot to. If you are uncomfortable with this process, you are most likely not a good BETA candidate. The idea is to get people that are at least marginally technical to review and critique the software and help work out the bugs, NOT just to let everyone have a shot at Microsoft s latest gee whiz product... If you can t help with the beta process, you are (potentially) wasting a chance for someone else to do so

ok... i got it to work on my own...... Report Abuse

Is it possible to boot a windows Operating System from an external USB Hard Drive? -

I want to try out Windows 7, but don t particularly want to partition my main hard drive, but I do have an external USB hard drive I could install it on, but will I be able to boot windows from it? A Google search finds conflicting sources. Some saying it s impossible, some saying it is possible, has anyone done anything like this, so you know if it s possible or not?

I don t think its impossible since I booted an installation CD from a USB CD drive so I think it is possible but this all depends on your BIOS.

You should be able to go into your BIOS settings when you boot your computer and change the boot order. You basically change the order of the devices in which your BIOS looks for an OS.

same problem i tryed to install xp stright to hd but when it rebooted i got the blue screen of death

Yes it is possible, you will need to install in on the usb hard drive but there is a few problems. First you need to set your bios to check usb hard drives before your computer s hard drive. However even then there is another problem. USB s transfer rates is 3 to 6 times slower then the sata cables inside the computer. It is suggested anyone using an external hard drive for an external operating should use external sata connections, otherwise there will be lag because of the slower transfer rates.

Would VMware or Microsoft virtual PC be an option for you? That would be the easiest way to run Windows 7 on an external HD and not mess around with anything. It would be better to use E-Sata instead of USB for speed purposes.

Yes it s possible, but it depends on the motherboard s BIOS. Older BIOSs (say, 3 years old, or older) can t boot from USB hard drives. Newer ones should be OK.

How can I convince my dad to get a Mac, not Windows 7? -

My dad is set on getting a Windows 7 next year, but I know that Macs are better. He has used a few arguments: Too pricey, won t support Windows programs... etc. It will support Windows, but he just doesn t want to get a Mac. And isn t Windows 7 supposed to cost more than some Macs?... Anything will help! Thanks :)

Hi there! You have me a little confused: Do you already own a PC and your dad is going to upgrade the OS to Windows 7, or was he planning on buying a whole new computer? Because upgrading the OS would be infinitely cheaper than buying a new machine. If the plan was to buy a new machine, and the debate is whether or not to get a new PC or to buy a Mac, well, that s a tough question... I have a Mac at home (and love it), but have used PCs at work for years. When you get down to it, a computer is a computer, and both will get the job done. True, Macs can be unfortunately pretty pricey. (I have no idea what the cost of a new PC with Windows 7 would run.) But there are a few pros to owning a Mac: 1) Macs aren t susceptible to viruses like PCs are. And they have built in security, so there s no need for anti-virus software. 2) I ve also had fewer problems with my Mac quot;crashingquot; than the PCs I ve worked on. It s a VERY stable environment. I leave my computer on 24/7, and only reboot if I install new software, and only power it off if I m going out of town or if there s a lightening storm. And it quot;wakes upquot; from sleep mode almost instantly. 3) The new Macs are AMAZINGLY fast. I was always frustrated with my work PC running slow, even after they upgraded me to 2 GB of memory. 4) With Apple s Bootcamp, you can run Windows on your Mac. (And it runs BETTER than on a PC! LOL =) http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/boo... 5) Three words: Plug and play. I love the fact that my Mac hooks up to the TV, the projector, the camera, WiFi spots, and anything else so easily. No settings to change, no long configurations or quot;wizardsquot; to go through. Just plug it in, and it works. (One sample: I used my laptop for teaching for several years, and my students (college-level) were always amazed when I d just plug my computer into the classroom TV, and they could instantly see what I was doing on screen. Other teachers with PC laptops wouldn t even bother, because they either didn t know how to change their monitor settings to output to the TV, or they knew how, but it took too long to set it up!) 6) If you re planning on getting into digital arts (graphic design, web design, photography, etc) tell your dad getting a Mac is essential to your future career. (Although, this day and age, I think it s about 60/40 for graphic companies that use Macs vs. PCs -- the gap is much closer now than it was in the past. However, if you go to school for graphic design, you ll learn on a Mac.) While you may be ready to make the switch, many people who have only ever worked on PCs are afraid of Mac s OS, even though (I believe) it s more user-friendly than Windows. His main reason for sticking with a PC may be that he s comfortable with how PCs work, and doesn t want to change. So really encourage him by saying that Macs are easier to use and, while they may be a little more expensive, it s a better choice in the long run. Good luck!

Okay, do some research for him. Depending on his knowledge of technology, he might only use the reasons that people at work tell him. If you can prove to him that Macs are better (which they are), then maybe you will win the case. Include some obvious reasons that make Macs superior. Also, be aware that maybe he is not comfortable with macs, adapting to a Mac can be difficult, but help him understand the better qualities over Windows.

windows will probably cost less than a mac. he s right about the support with windows. most corporations stay windows, not mac. windows don t have entire control over what it can run on, while apple controls everything, so that explains the added price. also, how do you know mac is better than windows 7 if windows 7 isn t even out yet. edit to brando: what is the proof that macs are better? don t bother referencing the mac ads at all. edit: yeah, then it looks like your stuck with windows. oh well. its not better than osx, nor vice versa. its just different. if you have enough ambition, you can install osx on your pc, just with a bit of hard work. go google it. hackintosh

What is the usage of the computer? Home use or office? If it s for office use, it s better to use Windows, as it s good with 3rd party hardware support like printers and projectors. Well, if it s home use, you can always say Mac comes in one piece and needs less maintenance.

If yer dad s forking out the bucks, then yer dad s got the right to make the decision. I have two Windows boxes, one MacOSX, computer experience since 1969. I chose MacOSX. There s one: experience. 20% of laptops purchased for back-to-school this year were Macs, a new high. There s two: growing popularity. I always suspected, Macs are BOUND to be susceptible to viruses. They just HAVE to, no? I ve been trying and trying to find more info. ALL the experts, and even some websites who SHOULD have a financial interest in saying otherwise, say Macs aren t being chased by viruses these days. There s three: security. PC Magazine, Consumer Reports, Computer World, eopinions.com, other sources (and me) rate Apple far at the top of the heap (followed closely only by my ol pal IBM) in hardware durability. There s four: good machinery. In spite of what quot;theyquot; say, there s PLENTY of software available for MacOSX. There s five: go look, it s free. After 20 years on IBM mainframes and 10 years on Windows, I learned MacOSX in 2 weeks. There s six: it s easy. Good luck with pop.

you can t.. its simple. I m gonna wait for windows 7 as well. Btw Macs are more expensive than PCs and in terms of software compatibility, windows has it beat. I see guys with the new macbooks here running XP hah

Can i have 3 windows xp, vista and 7 ? -

i have installed xp and vista in my pc and i want to install windows 7 now, it is possible to keep all 3 windows ?

yes, just run one as a kernel, or two if you have to.

yes you can if you plan on installing them on 1 hard drive but separate partitions then you need to install xp first then vista then windows 7 this is because xp won t recognize the vista boot loader and will overwrite it, then you won t be able to boot vista or windows 7 my advise is to download virtualpc 2007 sp1 from microsoft and install windows 7 as a virtual machine, virtualpc doesn t support vista home basic or premium, so it s best to install on xp, providing you have enough hard drive space, i ve already done this and windows 7 isn t worth it just yet, at least not until the release candidates are out (rc1 rc2) etc i hope this helps

well if you ve got 3 pc s then yes, but windows seven has not come out yet, theres not even a release date yet. im guessing windows seven may come out in 2010 or 2011? im not sure but if u want a release date on windows seven, let me know and ill find out wat it is. ok the 2 ur talking about are windows xp and vista, you ll need two pc s for that. the windows operating program that i would reconmend for u would be vista because its easier than xp (my opinion). but if u want xp, u can get it at staples for $150 because i was there just the other day and staples had xp for that much.

yes, you ll just use the same type of boot loader you re using now to switch between XP and Vista, and also you need to make sure you have the allocated hard drive space for Windows Seven... hopefully your system can handle it... but yes it is very possible to do it. good luck!

i have installed xp and vista in my pc and i want to install windows 7 now, it is possible to keep all 3 windows.

7? what windows 7? lol theoretically it is possible... make more partitions, and install every windows u want in a different partition. but i don`t know how good would that be, they can always fight between each other and as a result u might get some good errors from time to time

Yes, but you need to keep partitioning your harddrive as it will fck up your pc!! But i reccomend NOT using windows, download Linux Ubuntu or Fedora!! Better than windows and you can have it when you start up your computer!! :D

To test it? I would test in a virtual machine. From experience, new window version that come out tend to gave glitches. Look up Microsoft Virtual PC and approach it that way. Good Luck

It should be possible to triple-boot, but seeing how 7 isn t even out yet, nobody is going to know.

Yes, as long as you have separate Volumes for the installation. I have three, W2000, Vista 32bit and Vista 64bit.

I would have thought so, I d check MSDN on how you would do this as 7 has only been out in beta since Friday.

Is Windows 7 safe to put on my computer, I have Vista.? -

I would like to download windows 7. Do I need to get rid of vista? What do I do

no, u can have a dual boot with windows 7 and vista, just download the iso file from microsoft s website and then burn onto a dvd

Run both! I am running Vista and Windows 7 Beta with no problem. You can use this to partition the Drive, then drop in Windows 7 Beta. EASEUS Partition Manager EASEUS Partition Manager Home Edition is a FREE disk partitioning utility that offers a powerful range of functions such as resizing partitions, formatting partitions, copying partitions, creating new partitions, deleting partitions, hiding partitions, changing drive letters, setting active partitions, and a handful other functions. *Click on the Link below to view and or Download. http://www.partition-tool.com/download.h... ***Then you can brag to your friends... Thank you, Ivan [Lucid Geek]

Windows 7 is still in BETA stages. I would not personally recommend installing it until the full version is released. However, if you still wish to install it, then unless you partition your hard drive (google it), you will have to get rid of vista. Good Luck.

Windows would probely let you upgrade it from vista like all other upgrades but if i were u i would keep vista until all the bugs are gone

its not a good idea to install Windows 7 right now, especially since its still in the beta stages.I wouldn t even reccomend it even when it comes out in 2010.

Windows 7 has not been released yet and is still in either Alpha or Beta phase.

Does anybody intalled windows 7 skin/theme on your windows vista? -

I want to install a windows 7 skin/theme on windows vista, I would like to know if this skin works before installing it on my pc.

lol i recommend don t install the theme pack cause 75% of the time, they will slow down or even damage ur computer... wait until a better version come out xD

windows 7 theme is exactly the same as the vista theme, but worse. i ve tried windows 7 beta, and it isn t that good. Better than vista, but still not as good as i want it to be.

Sorry buddy, I,ve no idea.

Will I be able to upgrade to Windows 7 for free if I have XP? -

They were talking about free upgrade does that just mean for vista or XP too or will it just be discounted?

The beta that is out right now, yes you can download and install for free. When the full version is released, no it won t be free, but the upgrade will be cheaper than the full version.

Discounted. They ll almost certainly have one of those quot;Upgradequot; versions you can use.

Is there a way to get windows 7 new task bar for windows vista ? -

change the theme by doing the following: right click the desktop, then select personalize, then select theme and then choose one.

When does windows 7 microsoft come out in alaska? -

ok i would like to know when microsofs cam outt with windows 7 how big are them windows?

Beta version of Windows 7 is now available for download via Microsoft Connect. Go to http://connect.microsoft.com, register yourself and join the Windows EcoSystem project. You ll be able to download the Beta version of Win7. Right now, there s no official release date of Win7. Probably in late 2009, early 2010.

I think its a 2010 release. What do u mean by how big are them windows?

mininova.org get it now for free, its not done and ita better than vista

Intel 945GM Driver for Windows 7? -

hey i just downloaded windows 7 and i need the driver for my Intel 945GM graphics card. helpppp !!

7 is supposed to be compatable with vista drivers as its built on vista. try using the vista driver and see how you get on.

quot;Windows 7 is intended to be an incremental upgrade to Vista, with the goal of being fully compatible with device drivers, applications, and hardware which Windows Vista is already compatible with.quot; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7 So if you have win7 32 use vista32 drivers if you have win 7 64 use vista64 drivers http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_...

Vista drivers are supposed to work with Windows 7 so search for them.

When is Windows 7 going to be available for purchase for use on desktops and laptops? -

In early 2010, though you can already get the beta versions of Windows 7 through torrents.

There is no official release date, however, PC manufacturers will provide free Vista-to Win-7 upgrades on computers purchased starting July 1st, 2009. details: http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=1791... regards, Philip T

Hi, I was wondering if i could burn and install windows 7 on a dvd+rw disc, Thanks

Hey Jason B, I’m Rick from the Windows Team, and I had a link to a quick handy guide that will explain how to burn the Windows 7 Beta install DVD, click this link; http://mintywhite.com/tech/windows-7/bur... hope it helps Rick

Yes.

well if you read the instructions on using windows 7 beta...it says you have to burn it onto a dvd for it to work. it downloads as a iso file...so be sure to burn it as one or it wont work

I think you can, but why do you want a program that is is beta till 2010. You can not use windows 7 as your OS. It is just for testing purposes. You can install it on a second partition and play around with it. You could have problems when you decide to uninstall windows 7 again. Several askers who did install Windows 7 beta, want to uninstall in but can t and ask for help

Windows 7 beta install - black screen? -

Ive officially downloaded form Microsoft, tried to do a duel boot with Vista Ultimate on one partion and W7 on the other but after install all Im getting is a Black Screen with the windows 7 build no and for testing purposes only text in right hand corner, Ive installed several times and burned of the ISO disk several times, but still same problem, any suggestions to what it can be will be very useful.

is you copy currupt ? some times in the past i have disconnected a hard drive with a system and connected a differant hard drive and installed a differant system try it if you are able i downloaded w7 last night it installed first time 2.44 gb iso yes dual boot as well

If you downloaded officially from MS, and are a beta tester why would you ask this question here? I m sure you know how to report bugs. This sounds like a big bug. Good luck

Is windows 7 that promising? or it a another disappointing operating system? -

also im afraid it might have drm on it like vista does, can anybody tell me

So far so good. I like it so far. Vista DRM doesn t cause any issues if you know what you are doing. It is there for your security more than anything.

Data Recovery- http://myxoop.info/

i have been using it for a week it is looking good but people with xp won t like it like vista since they are afraid of change just like vista and xp when it first came out

How long does it take to install Windows 7? -

Depending on the speed of your machine. It took 15-20 minutes to install on my PC and thats with a 2.4ghz P4 CPU and 1gb RAM. LUG.

I installed Windows 7 and it took me around 45min to 1hr or so. I have a Dell XPS M170 Laptop with Pentium M 2ghz and 2GB of RAM.

Probably about 1 hour.

It will be different depending on the clock speed of the CPU.

Are there any Windows 7 Drivers? -

I just installed the new Windows 7 (Beta) on a virtual machine partitioned on my computer (using VMWare). Everything is working fine, except I cannot connect to the internet. I ve narrowed the problem down to my WLAN (wireless local area network) Adapter. Windows 7 doesnt recognize my WLAN Adapter because the driver only supports up to Windows Vista. Does anyone know a way to fix this? I dont think they have many drivers available that are compatable with Windows 7 yet because the Beta just came out a week ago.

Since you installed Windows 7 in your virtual machine you can use the NAT(VMware network settings) to access the internet as long as your host OS is connected to the internet, your windows7 can do the same.

The Vista drivers will work - If the install program says it won t work with your version of operating system, install them using the compatibility mode.

I had the same problem with a USB WLAN device. I used the most recent drivers which worked with Vista and they were fine. In most cases if you have Vista or even XP drivers, give them a try. Get a disk with the latest drivers and have windows 7 install them for you. You can do that through the troubleshooting application. Note: you do not need to use a compatability mode if they are vista drivers - I didn t.

ITunes install in windows 7 freezes immediately.? -

When I attempt to install iTunes 64-bit in windows 7 (x64 b7000) it freezes almost immediately. I have tried running it in compatibility mode, but nothing seems to work. I also attempted to install orca, but it gives me the same exact issue, leading me to believe there is a problem with the Microsoft installer. Is there any known solution to this?

Considering 7 is a beta, there are no solutions for issues just yet.

When is MS Windows 7 going to be released? -

They keep saying in 2009 or 2010. Hope they get Vista stabilized completely by then.

hopefully never.. :))

Is Windows 7 Beta permanent? -

well, ive heard from a bunch of friends that they ve all downloaded the windows 7 Beta on the internet, but i would like to know that if i download it, will it completely remove windows vista, and give me Windows 7, or is it basically just a trial?

DO NOT overwrite Vista as you will not be able to roll back. Windows 7 is awesome and I have been using it since Build 6801 thru 6956 and now 7000 Beta 1 which I am working with at the moment. I know its tempting but I suggest installing it on a spare Hard Drive if you have one lying around. As long as the Drive is no less than 40gb then you will be able to enjoy Windows like it has never been before. Also bear in mind Windows 7 Beta 1 comes with an initial 30day trial period, however you can rearm to extend the trial period http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/11/06... LUG.

It is beta software...it expires in August. When you download it, you will download an ISO image that you need to burn to a DVD. You can then boot to that DVD to install it. If you already have an OS installed, it should install as a dual boot OS.

It s a beta it s feature incomplete and no it s not permanent the beta code has an expiration date.

It quot;expiresquot; on August 1st, so it s basically a trial... though in actualality it s a BETA.

How can I install windows internet explorer 7 without validation? -

when i click next to install windows internet explorer it asks me to validate how can i skip that process and install the software

Try Firefox instead http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ Here s why http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10442_7-665... ///

Try to upgrade your Internet Explorer to Internet Explorer 7 from Yahoo. The Yahoo webpage have an IE7 download. I remebered installing IE7 this way, and never encountered any validation check. Try it by using the url link below.

u need to install service pack2. Then install IE7. u can download sp2 at internet. Use genuine Windows XP. Firefox 2 is great.

what is wrong with your windows xp is it a fake

don t think u can

you can use Firefox without validation, (unless you LIKE TO GET VALIDATED)? I mean it already thinks you are valid enough to use their software.

You can t. You need to validate your copy of windows ie stump up the money.

u can t use it unless u validate it ( r u a pirate)??

When i had windows vista home premium i never had problems playing dvds now that i installed windows 7 my ? -

computer is not detecting when i put dvd in the dvd player

Being that Windows 7 is in Beta form, this may be an issue with it. But first i d try re-installing the driver for your DVD player to see if this corrects the problem. Also, here is a site that has a lot of discussion on this software: http://windows7forums.com/

It may be a preview version of Windows 7 that can be downloaded via the web or torrents. Wait for the full version of Windows 7... or downgrade back to Windows Vista.

Upgrading 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 on the same CD? or Not? -

Okay, so I have a 32-bit Dell computer and a 64-bit Toshiba Laptop. If I am going to install Windows 7 on both these computers, do I have to buy 2 different CDs, one for 32-bit and the other for the 64-bit? Or do I just need one single CD? Oh and IF I do have to buy two CD s, well, I can only buy one CD, so which one should I waste my money on? The 64-bit laptop or the 32-bit desktop?

As of the beta, they would not be on the same CD as Microsoft distributed different ISOs for each. I d spend the money on the one that you use more. Or your laptop. 32-bit should be going the way of the dodo. EDIT: Actually, Colinc, it s not the disc that matters, but the CD-code. It seems that Microsoft only gave out ~20 or so CD Keys that can be used infinitely for the beta. It was very nice of them.

You can not buy 7 yet, it is only available as a beta test version. All these copies will expire in August. You will need one disk for every machine you want to load on. A second one will not activate.

you should be able to just buy the one and use it on both computers i would buy the 32 bit first

no thats technically illegal you need two....

How do i know when 32bit windows 7 beta is finished downloading? -

i see the download manager under processes in task manager (actually there are 7 download managers, because i pressed download 50 times but i didn t know it was downloading because nothing told me it was downloading) there is no progress bar or windows at all that have anything to do with the download.

u dont

I m no sure about this, but maybe you try stopping the download manager using Task Manager. Then, go to the web of Windows 7 and try again to download the beta. This time you can see the download manager just once. About trying Windows 7 on VirtualPC, that is possible, creating a new virtual machine for Windows Vista, but instead of using a Vista DVD, just use the Windows 7 DVD, and you re on the go! Well, I don t use VirtualPC, I use VMware (it s my favorite :D), and Windows 7 runs like a charm! I activated normally, with 512MB of RAM, I ve installed Office 2007 and everything is fine ;-)

What do you guys think about Windows Internet Explorer 7, Is it HOT or NOT? -

By revamping IE, did Microsoft do a good job or was it just another unnecessary flop? Do you find it user friendly or does using it feel like walking thru burning hell? What do you like about it and/or what do you dont?

It is quot;HOTquot;er than IE6. However, I just thought I would bring your attention to this article: http://operawatch.com/news/2007/04/resea... Opera users are apparently the most satisfied group of internet users. I wonder what that means.

i guess it was neccessary, coz they were trying to fight Firefox, Opera etc that were really chewing into the market, but to all intents and purposes, its a cheap, poor attempt to mimic Firefox. that at first glance, crashed too often, was slower when loading pages, haven t bothered to find out anymore about it after that! back to my SAFE, wonderful Firefox

Y ppl need other Browsers for....? fast, easy, convinience?? IE7 is the best.

In some ways it is better than Firefox. I like being able to click on a button on the tab bar to open a new tab. It does everything else that it is supposed to do. One problem does exist in Vista and that is that some web sites will not display because they contain Adobe Flash Player graphics. I dont know if it is just MY computer or if everyone is having this problem.

I think Firefox 2 is better!

it is not that much hot what people expect but firefox is better then IE

I find the only great feature of ie7 is tabs on the top to open webpages on so not so hot but just the slightest bit helpful.

Please try to get out the house more.......

IE 7 bundles a lot of user requests that make it more user friendly as Microsoft would have put it. But if we look around, far more reliable and far better systems are already available as Freeware (e.g. FireFox). Tabbed browsing is something that is available in Netscape and Firefox for ages, so if Microsoft adds it in IE 7 I dont see any reason for them to be so excited. And like all other Microsoft products, it has its own world of eccentricities with JAVA. So, No, its not a HOT software, just another shout from marketing team of Microsoft.

Use it and be of my opinion. it is HOT to even come closer. No or Not it is simply never rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... upgrade or install it. If done you will remember it for all wrong reasons.

There are way better browsers than IE7.

Putting windows 7 on a partion? -

I am currently creating a partion on my harddrive to install the windows 7 beta and test it out. Now I ve never done this before. I am downloading the 64 bit version and have allocated about 50 gigs in a seperate partion. Do I need to burn the .iso of windows 7 to a disk or are there other ways of doing this?

There are 2 ways you could do it you could burn the iso to a dvd and actually install it to your pc, but bear in mind if you mess up you will not be able to get back into your current operating system. Another safer way is to use a virtual machine solution such as vmware or virtual pc, I myself recommend Microsoft s virtual pc 2007 and the full version is completely free. PS although virtual pc says it only runs on certain versions of xp and vista ignore it it runs fine on all versions. And no-offence to you but the windows 7 betas are still quite buggy and only for experienced pc users and if you needed to ask that question do you really want to attempt to use windows 7 yet?

You can find software to manage multiple OSs on your computer. Look for multiboot software online and find one that you think will fight your needs.

Windows 7 downloading help!? -

every time i download the windows 7 32 bit beta it stops at like 4Mb

Microsoft is getting hammered with download requests. They took the whole thing down for a few hours shortly after making it public. I d suggest waiting a couple/few days and try when things have settled down. /

use internet explorer and install the active x so you can download it. firefox and other browsers don t have it so ya. also you might want to try this link: http://download.microsoft.com/download/6...

why don t you use this download using flash-get or dap since they are resume supported ...

Just keep trying. It has been a pain to get, trust me.

Windows 7 Virtual PC Issues (gfx card)? -

Ok, I just got the Windows 7 beta and successfully installed it to a Virtual PC. The only probelm I am experiencing is that the VPC cannot detect my 8600GTS gfx cards. (I have two, but I don t SLI them because some games get glitchy) I tried downloading the Vista drivers for my cards, but the installer could not find my cards. In Device manager, under display adapters, it shows quot;Standard VGA Graphics Adapterquot; Windows update doesn t detect the cards either, despite what the Nvidia website said under quot;Download Drivers gt; Windows 7quot; Any help would be appreciated, as I would really like to see the new aero. Everything else has impressed me so far.

It s a Beta .... meant for Beta testers to log the errors amp; send them to Microsoft. I d like to offer you a solution, however, since there are no Windows 7 drivers from Nvidia, amp; Windows 7 Beta does not support all hardware .... not much we can do about it. Contact Microsoft. regards, Philip T

Ya i was aboout to get Windows 7 beta build for an extra computer, but in concern to your problem, I dont think it has anything to do with the fact that You are runnning it on a virtual pc, but like said above, it is currently in beta and probably doesnt support alot of hardware or have drivers for them. But it also might be the version of Winsows 7. Even though it is in beta, there are a lot of builds that are released that have tiny bug fixes and ect. But probably the most you can do is contact Microsoft and tell them about, because i dont think Nvidia has drivers for Windows 7 yet.

VPC does not directly use your systems graphic card, it uses a virtual Standard VGA device with 4MB Ram. Windows 7 seems to support many of the devices Vista supports, but only if it has direct access to the hardware, which in VPC is not allowed. If you check the settings you will find USB is not available either. I think the same holds true for VMware and other Virtual computing applications. If you want the full quot;Windows 7 Experiencequot;, or any of the newer OS s, you will have to actually install it as the system OS, not run it in a virtual PC. AFAIK, from NT onwards, direct hardware access from an application is not allowed (HAL), helps control many badly written programs.

Installed windows 7, wow doesnt work, how do i go back to vista? -

says file doesn t have a program associated with it for performing that action , looked and didn t find a thing, anything would help

format HD, reinstll VISTA. You got to format the HD to get rid ot the 200 mb partition W7 made

Under System Tools in your Start list is a program called System restore. You can restore your computer to an earlier time (before you installed W7). You can either start over or avoid W7 altogether. If you don t like the restore, you can then go back to system restore and put it back the way it was.

Did you burn the file as Image file?Won t work as data I tried that. It s an image file. Active@ freeware burner http://www.tucows.com/preview/507688 reinstalling vista - if you have a recovery sector still try F8 on bootup or F10 Or use the Recovery/Install disk . set Cd rom first in boot order in bios, save settings and exit. Then you will see a screen about booting to the cd rom drive

put your vista disk in cd drive restart and follow instructions There is not really a way to uninstall Windows 7. The procedure to remove Windows 7 depends on the computer system at hand. Was Windows 7 installed as another operating system in a multi-boot environment or as the only operating system? Is there data on the Windows 7 partition that needs to be backed up http://windows7news.com/2009/01/28/unins...

Windows 7 Dual Boot Parition Question? -

I want to dual-boot my system I am using Windows Vista on an HP Pavilion m8120n. I have watched videos on CNET.com from their editors teaching people how to partition their drives. However, I do not know which drive to select. Do I choose the, C: drive or the HP Pavillion (E:) drive (which as more room)?

If the E drive is a partition on the single hard drive, it doesn t make any difference (since you re still partitioning the same physical drive - drive 0). If it s a physical drive, use the C drive. Some computers have problems booting from other than the first physical drive.

Will i have to replace my lcd flatscreen monitor to use the touch screen in windows 7 operating system? -

To put it simply as the person above points out No. the reason for this is that a touch screen relies on embedded wires or cells with in the screen to detect were you are touching but you can get and overlay that will stick o your screen.

If you want to use the touchscreen functionality in Windows 7 you will need to have a touchscreen monitor. A regular monitor will work, but you won t be able to use the touchscreen functions.

No, you will not if you don t mind not using touchscreen Windows XP and Windows Vista already support touch screens, you just have to install the proper software.

No it will work with existing hardware.

Im downloading windows 7 beta? -

Should i keep vista on my computer along with windows 7? Do you think its compatable with any programs? If i don t like it how do i deleat it?

Vista already has Windows IE7 on your Computer. This is the version that comes with a Vista O.S. If you don t like IE7, just go into any search box and type quot;OTHER WINDOWS IE VERSIONSquot; GoodLuck :)

Dell Latitude C400 Windows 7 Beta? -

I own a Dell latitude c400 laptop and recently I install the Windows 7 Beta OS. Everything went great installing the beta OS and it runs great on my laptop, but the one problem is my resolution on my monitor is too big. I try everything doing a windows update, reinstalling my video controller driver, and changing my display options, (no luck) My video card is a Intel 830m or 855m graphics card. Does anyone have a solution on how to get my resolution fixed? Maybe a vista driver? P.S I know the Latitude C400 was not made to run Windows 7 or Vista according dell, but I do not see any issues running those Operating systems. Please and Thank you

Believe Dell

You should not have installed Windows 7; it is a BETA. Format your PC then run it in a virtual machine such as VirtualBox

Can you install windows xp over windows 7? -

i installed windows 7 on a different partition which wasn t drive c, Windows 7 changed the drive i installed it to to drive c and my windows xp wont start up now. So i was thinking of installing xp on the other partition, is it possible? Or is there a way to fix this from recovery console?

First download gparted: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.... Copy the image file to a disk then boot from it. After boot follow instructions until you get to a window that shows your windows partitions, just delete the windows 7 partition and reboot. If you get a boot error put in xp boot disk or whatever one you have and open command prompt and type in exactly quot;Bootrec.exe /FixMbrquot;

If you are not sure how to image and partition your hard drive then I would advise against it. Besides the beta could give you problems, especially driver problems since you are using XP. I hade to find all new or different drivers for my proprietary software.

Windows 7 Outlook Substitute? -

I just got windows 7 beta build 7000, and I noticed that just like vista, it no longer has Outlook Express. I have been on XP so long that I have grown used to Outlook. I have used the mail client for Ubuntu as well and loved it. Is there a Outlook (Or outlook substitute) for windows 7? Thanks.

Not on the computer preloaded, but you can get it here. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-100481...

How to Back Up My Computer Before Installing Windows 7 Beta? -

I m running vista and am trying to upgrade to windows 7 beta, but am wondering how to complete save my computer as is, before in case the beta of windows 7 is flawed. So, I want to have a back up of programs docs basically everything in case i need to revert to vista.

True True you can make separate Partition from your hardrive to install but don t upgrade since it a beta and will probably have bugs. I have the beta and installed on a partition Which i put 25gbs on to run :D.If you know how to resize move create use the computer management feature on vista to manage them and to do that but Since I have XP i use the link on the source.Try to go to google and search how to create partition So you won t mess up your computer and be careful with the software link i gave you XD

Windows 7 Beta is not an upgrade. It s a trial program put out for testing that ends on August 1 when it ll publically launch and you ll have to buy it to keep on using it. I hate to be mean but if you don t know how to backup your system and files, it s probably not a great idea for you to install a beta OS. The best and fastest way to do your whole HD is to ghost it, to make an image of it on your HD and on an external drive quot;just in casequot;. The guys I know who regularly do beta testing never do it on their #1 personal computers. They use other computers quot;just in casequot; there s a great big bug nobody noticed up at MS.

Hi, You can use acrones image to make a new partition so you can install the new windows 7 into the new partition. You can then dual boot windows vista and windows 7. You dont need to backup. If you have an portable external hard drive that you dont use, acrones image can clone the whole hard drive for you.

Did you read all the suggestions and recommendations?

Windows 7 is still in beta, just install it over Virtual PC or Parallels.

Windows 7 Beta Downgrades? -

I am considering the windows seven beta, however I am wondering if once I upgrade vista I will be able to keep my files and programs intact without having to restore them from another source.

most likely it won t affect your files. however, if you can t do a backup, you should NOT be upgrading. It s a beta version for testing, and is not necessarily safe.

They will stay intact, but be forewarned that in August the beta will deactivate and you will have to reinstall Vista.

If i switch to windows 7 will i lose my data? -

I was considering switching but i dont have enough room to back everything up

Buy an external hard drive to back everything up. Or buy a couple of blank DVDs. Your call. Because, with upgrading, there is ALWAYS the chance that you will lose your data. You probably won t, but if it is important and you want to be 100% sure, back it up.

DVD-r are your friend. They are cheap (price per GB) but they take a while to write to. Your next option would be an external drive (because an internal drive doesn t help if the computer is dropped). The external hard drive will start at about $70 for a decent one, but the write times are much faster and you can rewrite to a hard drive a couple thousand times. You have time to weigh your options though as windows doesn t have a new OS coming out anytime soon.

Find a friend witha big hard-drive because yeah,it involves reformatting.

ya if u format if u upgrade u wont or just install it on another partition or on virtual pc(very slow with 1 gb)

If you dont back it up yes.

I don t know... MACS RULE

Microsoft Windows 7 Build 6801 question? -

i have Xp installed on my laptop. I want to install windows 7 build to see what it is like. Will this newly install wipe all my computer data away such as programs, music, pictures and docs????

I am running Windows 7 (Build 6801) and I must say it is outstanding. It is a pre-beta build so I would recommend if you have a spare PC and Hard Drive then carry out a dedicated installation. Alternatively if this is not an option you will need to partition your drive so you don t screw your XP installation I recommend GParted http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ Another alternative would be installing it on a virtual machine, I recommend VirtualBox http://www.virtualbox.org/ however doing it this way you would not be getting all that Windows 7 has to offer and performance would be poor. LUg.

if you create a new partition in diskpart you can use a small partition to install windows 7. and then dual boot it. thats the best way to do things when doing research and development.

Whats going to be so great about windows 7? -

Will it fix all the technoly and desing problems of vista and xp? whats it going to improve?

Hi, Windows 7 is the going to be the best version of windows so far. They are fixing the bugs/problems of Vista. Windows 7 is like Vista Improved. You may hear many people complain about vista. Microsoft has decided Vista was a failure and that something needs to happen about it. Hope this helps! :)

Hi Agent 11, My name’s Ron and I’m a member of the Windows Outreach Team. I thought I’d just drop in to give you a few links that might be helpful in regards to new Windows 7 features. First, here’s the link to the Windows 7 page: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... That’s going to be the place where you can get the latest and greatest as Windows 7 progresses. For the new features like the improved taskbar, improved device management, and the new HomeGroup networking tool, head over here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... That page basically leads you through the new and updated features of Windows 7. Hope this helps. Cheers, Ron Windows Outreach Team

The desktop environment is going to improve, it s basically the Windows version of KDE. With that being said you know its going to be light weight (consume less resources) and beautiful.

The main thing its going to improve is the performance extremely its going to load up the os faster than ever its Windows best version so far

it faster from vista

Try the beta and see for yourself.

Windows 7 Questions HELP? -

I will be installing Windows 7 soon on a new partition... (dual-boot Windows XP and 7)... When I get it installed and stuff how to I uninstall it? Do I just delete the partition?

Yeah, you can just reformat the partition.

WHY IN THE NAME OF GOD WOULD ANYONE USE A BETA OS? Good grief...dump it and load XP Pro SP3.

Don t you just love it when companies use he general public to trouble shoot their products? Beta versions are all trial versions...they have bugs in them. Try clicking on it in device mananger and see if there is a way to reinstall...

I hope you haven t overwritten your previous version of Windows and installed the BETA version on a seperate hard disk. Chances are the driver wont be available from the dvd manufacturer till this version is rolled out in its finished state.

Windows 7 Beta product key? -

So, I ve just downloaded the windows 7 codenamed vienna beta build 6081 something. After I installed it, it asks for a product key, now I dont know why the hell is this askin for one. Its just a beta, a public beta. So, if you guys know any product key, please share. Or a product key from the Vista final beta, they say it works, so, guys, share. Remember, its only a beta, not the final release. I am helping microsoft to report bugs and problems so it would be a better OS unlike vista.

Hey hope these work for you i know they did for me! Here’s a list of 15 Multiple Activation Product Keys (MAK) that you can use to activate your Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit editions). J7PYM-6X6FJ-QRKYT-TW4KF-BY7H9 D67PP-QBKVV-6FWDJ-4K2XB-D4684 HQDKC-F3P6D-C9YYM-HRB89-QDBB7 76DX2-7YMCQ-K2WCP-672K2-BK44W 2RG93-6XVFJ-RKHQ7-D2RTT-3FMQT TT63R-8JGWP-WWT97-R6WQC-4CVWY YQJX6-D6TRM-VWBM7-PHDJK-YPXJH Q7J7F-GQHBT-Q42RQ-2F8XV-2WKKM KH4X7-JY8G7-RCD7G-BYDJW-YTPXH WYBJ8-8QVP3-24R82-VV2VP-72Q9W 9DP2R-W78GJ-GJBKW-CKR46-H3WYT CXB7F-WWCM4-BP9V3-2YH43-RK8Y6 W9BYV-K2TB8-4YDJT-QBQWP-KFDHB WGDJW-B8DYC-WVKX4-6MKF4-B8PK8 2PHXF-9PBDW-D3WWY-CPDKD-XG87V and if none of those work which shouldnt happen...but just incase you can always do this! Here’s the hack: Download Windows 7 Pre-Beta M3 Build 6801. Mount the ISO on a virtual machine or burn it on a DVD. Install Windows 7 now, but remember not to use an activation key! When installation is complete, open Command Prompt. Type any of the following three commands: sysprep /generalize slmgr.vbs –rearm rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows Hit Enter and now restart your computer. That’s it! Now enjoy a free extended 60 day trial of Windows 7. The hack is good to use twice. So, in order to get the full 90 days trial, wait until your first 30 days is up, follow the hack, then when that 30 expires, do it again Cheers!

Windows Vista RC product keys can be used on Windows 7 (Build 6801) J7PYM-6X6FJ-QRKYT-TW4KF-BY7H9 8WXG6-P3KD3-D26M7-4TMQF-DKYVV LUg. For the information of others these are pre-release thus not breaking community guidelines.

Windows 7 Beta Edition? -

G day, I have seen a few videos on you tube of the new beta version of windows (Windows 7) which apparently is not to be released until 2010 but apparently they have released Beta versions?? Is this true? and if so is it available to the public? and if that is true where would I be able to get a copy of this ? Although Im running fedora, I would love to test it out on a virtual PC Any information would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, David

its available here and there if you know where to look. its not an official release obviously, so it wont be suitable as a permanent OS. i suggest looking where you would normally look for such things..

What operating system are you most looking forward to, Windows 7 or Mac OS X Snow Leopard? -

Windows 7 will be more popular because most people use Microsoft more In reality Leopard will be better and improved I am looking forward to windows 7 because after Vista I am wondering will microsoft get a friendly response

Mac has a lot of origins from Linux and Unix. Windows is slow and cumbersome, requires a lot of of hardware(RAM and CPU), and is beginning to go downhill. A lot of countries are veering to Linux, cause it is free, impervious to viruses faste more versatile and just all out better for the human race. You don t have take my word for it, just wiki Linux, GNU project and Open Source. Windows is about control(their control over you) and Monopoly(over your money). Anything but Windows.

Since Windows vista went downhill really fast, I wonder if Microsoft is gonna make a better Windows or the rumors that say Windows OS is dying is true. Leopard is technically better, but in terms of usability it s way off my shopping list, I prefer a new version of Linux, or at least stay within my current version of Windows XP SP2.

I love Windows XP. And AVG 8.0 Anti-virus Paid Version I don t think I will upgrade.

fedora 10

Neither, I m happy with Windows XP Pro and perhaps a newer version of Linux. :D Both OS s are flawed and are moving towards mainstream consumerism and trying to be more flashy, less functional.

Can i download windows 7 with a usb? -

ok so i dont have a DVD in my computer so can i use a 4GB USB? i also have a 8 GB but can we use that yo install windows 7??? i really wanna use windows 7 please help me out.!!!!!

Sure, just install the ISO image to the USB stick and go into your BIOS and set it to boot from the USB.

You can use. Windows 7 is beta Version. There would be many bugs in the software as that is under testing phase. Good Luck!!

you can download daemon tools lite from www.daemon-tools.cc/ install it, mount the windows 7 image file and run the installer directly from windows vista as an upgrade. won t work from XP, and if you do it from vista, there is no going back! so come August, you MUST reform your hard drive.

Is it just me or does windows seven sorta look like a mac OS? -

i ve seen a few internet vids on Windows 7 and i must say, it reminds me of a mac OS. I already have vista so i won t be upgrading or anything, but If anyone has tried the beta for Windows 7 please tell me if it reminds you of a mac OS...meaning runs great, looks great, but is hard to use, and set up the exact opposite of how you think.

it does look similar to OS X. As for your other comments, have you actually used a Mac?

There are some resemblances.

i want to uninstall IE 8 (beta) from my computer and go back to IE 7 . I am having windows vista premium. is it possible?

YES. Go to Control Panel open programs and features then look for IE 8 then uninstall it. You may have to download a fresh version of IE 7 from microsoft web site. www.microfoft.com.

Can you install amp; run the Windows 7 beta, that was released on the 9th Jan, on VirtualBox? -

And how? Can you provide link of website that shows you how please?

Windows 7 s release date has not been relesed by Microsoft and speculation in the press is that it wont be till 2010. You download and install the Beta version you will inherit a load of grief as a few people have found out already. The OS and security is full of holes and bugs. It s meant for programmers and Beta testers only.

Windows 7? How do I burn an ISO file to make an install DVD? -

OK. I downloaded the Beta version of Windows 7 from Microsoft. Now it wants me to burn an ISO file to make an install DVD. I tried several burning programs and they want me use a CD. It is not BIG enough to hold all the info. I put a DVD in the burner and it says no media..uuggghh. Please help. Thanks.

Well it look like you didn t like to read. Butt is the facts window s 7 beta is not a done version. The word Beta means experimental software. You are a texter for window s 7 and you should be reporting to Microsoft. Oh by the way there is no support for window s 7 beta. I hope you have learned to read things before you load it. You should wait to next year to load it from Microsoft.

Am i better off sticking with WIndows XP and waiting for Windows 7, or should i get Vista? -

It depends on what is your usage and also whats ur PC configuration because in any case vista is extremely heavy and uses much more system resources than xp. XP requires only 1GB hardisk space but Vista may require more than 4GB at least. Also Vista has a lot of unwanted and annoying features ( more than XP ) which are not required for a normal user ever in his life and results in more system resources, n also sometimes creates unwanted troubles. Vista is also new system so many old software and hardwares are not completely compatible with it, it has feature like program compatibility but not useful always. Vista has become most unwanted system for most of business users and microsoft had to release downgrade option because of heavy demand for XP, now in US XP in available for many business PC / Laptops. Vista biggest problem is usage of system resource and results in slow system n software performance. It also has special improvements like it supports more RAM and higher PC configurations. Vista is less stable than XP and much more annoying, u can use vista if u want highly graphical interface and unwanted security features which asks u every time u open ur program. Microsoft has somehow also accepted that vista is failure and is developing its new system much faster than envisaged earlier i.e. Windows 7. Vista is going to be a failure like WIndows ME. But still u can use vista with its unwanted features switched off with registry tweaks but still its has less performance than XP. Worth waiting for Windows 7 than switching to Vista, XP is much stable and better

Wait for 7. I say this because even Microsoft admits that Vista went awry. Things went all buggy, and the security was terrible. The new interface takes a while to get used to, be it the filing system or the start menu. The Ribbon interface is also very confusing at first, but that interface is optional. Vista makes virtual hard disks very hard, and although all the good applications are good, they are more or less bloatware. It take a while to edit out what you don t need. Windows 7 looks good, introduces the Ribbon interface to Paint, Notepad etc and makes jumplists, grouping documents in same applications so that when you hover the cursor over the application in the taskbar, a preview of all documents open above the taskbar. Everything is better in animations and extremely graceful, so definitely wait for 7 or buy a Macintosh.

That all depends. People are unhappy with Vista and are constantly compaining about it, but the same thing is going to happen with Windows 7. It isn t going to be perfect and people will complain about it too. I use Vista and haven t had a major problems. You need to decide if it is worth the wait and the potential problems with the new Windows.

How about trying Linux? There are many reasons why it is better (and a few why it isn t), but these days it is at least as capable as any Windows OSs and doesn t require anywhere near the sort of high specs that Windows needs. Biggest problem is if you simply must use some software that either hasn t been ported to Linux or doesn t run under WINE, but then you can usually find an open source alternative that will do the same job.

It all depends on what you do, what the specification of your PC is, and whether you are happy with XP. One thing I will say, is never ever go with the first release of a Microsh!t Windows OS, always wait for the second or third release. I know of an independant computer shop who is downgrading new PCs from Vista to XP because so many people are unhappy with Vista. It does take a lot of processor cycles and system resources.

I use Vista Ultimate all the time now but it does need up to date hardware to be able to run it properly and a couple of Gig of RAM. Older processors are going to struggle with it because of the much better GUI. Personally I wouldn t like to go back to XP because it is so basic.

for the moment stick with xp vista is far to troublesom it s also a resouce hog if I were you I d wait for windows 7 to appear and hope it s better than vista, I am windows 7 should be release sometime in 2009 according to Microsoft so not to long to wait

if you want to run the newer games you need vista i like it it does what i want and with delays windows 7 will appear around 2012 i wasn t going to wait that long

I would wait. Vista is not as bad as everyone makes it seem, but XP is much better, and hopefully 7 will be way better if they use Vista as a learning block

Get Vista. Wait about 6 months at least after 7 s release to get it so they can wipe out any bugs. Plus 7 is at least 12-18 months away, and Vista is sweet.

Don t get Vista. It s riddled with over-security problems and extra features you ll never need.

better stick to xp it is the reliable version of windows tha vista vista creates a problem for its users

Stick with XP Vista is not bad but its not worth the upgrade.

go with what your heart tells you to do i hope you can figger it out.

i m waiting for 7

How do I get rid of the Windows 7 partition that I have? -

I want to get rid of Windows 7. When I do this will the Windows.old folder still be there or will it have future problems when I reboot and it won t be able to read Windows XP? Has anyone tried this or am I on my own on this one?

this is going to depend on how you installed it , if you installed it over top the windows xp partition , you well umm F----ed and will have to reinstall XP

Windows 7 does not install on my pc? -

i try to install windows 7 beta 1 but it freezes at the glowing windows logo when i try to stat my pc, it installs every part except the last step since it freezes. my specs are: Asus P5GC-MX Motherboard 512MB XFX GeForce 9800 GTX 4GB OCZ Ram Ultra 650-Watt Power Supply 200GB Western Digital Hard Drive Pioneer DVD-RW Intel P4 3.0GHz HT

pci card

Because it s fake comming from a torrent site. http://news.softpedia.com/news/Whatever-... http://keznews.com/4013_Windows_7_M1_bui... Even if it is real, it s not worth it to install it. Since this is Beta you ll definatly encounted many bugs and issues with it. Before you know it, you ll be back to good old Vista.

Your processor isn t good enough. (Intel P4 3.0Ghz HT) Also I would recommend not installing Windows 7, it is leaked it is unstable, it could ruin your computer. So don t bother downloading it, and installing it. Wait for the release from Microsoft

get some idea here ,but anything in BETA does not put in your system untill all the bugs are fixed http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=3236

Just wait until the final version comes out. It ll be done soon enough. Stick with XP Pro until it does.

I currently have a laptop with xp and 10gb in c drive. i have downloaded windows 7 and need 16gb to install it? -

i need 20 gb in c drive.total capacity of c drive is 25gb . please tell me how to format my c drive under these conditions.

If your 25 GB HDD is the only drive you have, you should think about replacing it with a larger one. Normally I would have suggested you use Cute Partition Manager http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5369.h... to partition your hard drive so you have a new empty partition for Windows 7. But if 25 GB is really all you have, you would be better of forgetting about installing a second OS and stick with XP

First of all remember this that windows 7 will be launched in 2010 so the copy of win. 7 you are having is false. If you install it, it may be harmful But if you still want to install it then make a bootable cd and boot from it. It will format the selected drive and install the new window. I THINK YOU SHOULD WAIT TILL THE ORIGNAL WINDOWS 7 IS LAUNCHED!!!

your computer must be old as the dirt we stand on lol....You should just buy a new computer and put windows 7 on it. But, if your set on doing it to your computer you got now, put the OS on disks, restart compter with first disk in the cd-rom drive, then boot comp off disk and it ll take you thru the process

What are the differences between Windows Vista/Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008? -

Can you also explain in the most detail and differences possible

Windows 7 is in beta test, so no one knows what it will be. Windows Server X (any version) is intended for servers. Vista is intended for workstations. (They connect to servers.)

Windows 7 (or whatever its final name will be) is supposedly replacement/upgrade on VISTA. In my opinion from using both they are pretty much the same for my uses. I imagine others will say different since they have different uses.

well lets see when window 7 will be out fully to no the difference b/t win 7 and vista.

Does my upgrading windows to beta 7.0 ,or whatever the crap is,keep me from being able to log on to messenger? -

I just did the new windows quot;upgradequot; to beta , or whatever, now i cant log into messenger , i deleted the hotfix from my system, and also deleted messenger, then re- installed it and still is not working. The upgrade from windows said it was deleting quot;malicious softwarequot; from my system, so I bet they consider any Yahoo software malicous.I think Bill Gates is trying to make it harder for any competition, he is really hurting now, down to his last 550 billion in his bank account, SO he is protecting his company (the monthly water bill for his house is over 30 grand) Puhleeeze

no . today the messenger servers looks too busy or having ssome prob ...

Windows or IE 7? If it is IE 7 then I can t understand why you are having these problems, however since it is BETA there can be bugs and problems like this and this is why they call it BETA because it still has a few bugs/problems that can cause problems etc. Try going back to whatever you were using before

Try linux instead then.Better than Windows. If you do not want to, then just lower the security of the windows program contrrol :P or add yahoo to the trusted program list.

i have solution: in your yahoo messenger, click quot;messengerquot; from upper left, then click on quot;connection preferencesquot; from window appear check on quot;firewall with no proxiesquot; and click ok, from window appear click ok again.. and try to login now...... good solution.. note: when you try to login after solution, just wait while logging in.

Windows Vista Upgrade to Windows 7? -

I was wondering, is Microsoft gonna give out free upgrades to Windows 7? One of my friends got a free upgrade from XP to Vista from Microsoft, so that s why I m asking this...

No. Microsoft gave free upgrades to vista for those people who bought there computer within 2 months of vista being released.

No, there must been a reason for Microsoft to do so, plus their profits will fall if they just give out free upgrades.

Windows 7 32 bits or 64 bits? -

My computer spec are as follow: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz GeForce 9800 GTX+ (512 mb, 256-bit) 4GB RAM 320 GB Sata HDD I heard that 32bits only support till 3Gb of RAM, is t true? Will there any software or hardware incompatible issues happen? Will games run slow in 64 bits (which I experienced in Vista Ultimate 64 bits previously) So should install Windows 7 32 bits or 64 bits according to my comp specs with the current RAM? If plan to upgrade the RAM in future, so which bit suit?

It s not exactly true that 32-bits will only support 3GBs of RAM. Technically, 32-bit can support up to 4GBs of RAM. However, that includes video RAM, pagefiles, and other computer memory. As such, you tend to only be able to use about 3GBs of RAM in a 32-bit environment. If you want to use all 4GBs of your RAM, go 64-bit.

NVIDIA has FINALLY released 64-bit drivers (I have an 8400 and am rejoicing), so your game issues should be resolved. If you think about it, your processor is designed for 64-bit. Imagine a water pipeline. If you only turn it on halfway, you only get half the things done. If you can turn it on completely, you get twice the speed. Windows 64 would normally turn on that pipe, except for when 32-bit apps run, it slows it down. Your computer is completely 64-bit friendly, your overall improvement will depend upon your usage. Since you appear to be a gamer (nice videocard BTW), i d say you get some improvement, since most games are 32-bit.

hmm thats weird, i have windows ultimate 32 bit and i also heard that 32 bit OS s only support 4 gb of ram but i just finished making my computer yesterday and i have windows ultimate 32 bit and it showed all 4gb of my ram, i guess for some people its like 3.50/4 or 3.15/4 etc but for me its 4/4 gb of ram, might not be the same for you

if you have vista 64 you have to use windows 64 or 32 use 32 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windo...

they should all work

I am running vista and want to change the login screen to one like windows 7, only theres the vista logo. Help? -

I am running vista and want to change the login screen to one like windows 7, only theres the vista logo. I tried using stardocks login studio, only the vista logo appears at the bottom of my page and looks rather bad offplaced to the windows seven logo. Does anyone know of how to remove it, or software that will cover that logo up as well as the background theme?

By downloading Windows 7 Beta, just wait, if you can t, download 6801 from BTJunkie. Nearly 7000 (6933 is now)!

I think Windows 7 Transformation Pack should help you : http://windowsaddict.blogspot.com/2008/1...

When will Windows 7 be released? What will be the price? And will it be worth upgrading to? -

It is out in Beta right now It is due to be release for general use sometime at the end of this year. most probably in Sept. 09.... It will more than likely run somewhere in the $ 199 to $ 249 range in price.... depending on whether Basic or Premium.... And... personally... there is NO operating system that is worth a damn dime until it is into its SP 2 release... this is the stage where most all of the bugs are done in ... and the system is down to quot;smooth sailingquot;..... Hope this helps ? ////

this link will answer all your questions about windows 7 http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/windows_...

Since the beta version is scheduled to expire in August, I would have to think it would be ready by then. As far as is it worth it, that depends on whether or not you like Vista. If you re happy with Vista, there really no reason to upgrade. Vista won t immediately be outdated. XP, after all, is about 8 years old and there are millions of people still using it. I have no idea what the price would be. Do yourself a huge favor and take a look at Ubuntu or some other linux OS. They are better, more secure, more stable, and totally FREE. Sure there s a learning curve, but it s worth it. I dual boot my computer. I load Windows only for software I can t get to run on linux, for everything else I use Ubuntu. Best of luck.

Hercules DJ Console RMX and Windows 7? -

I cannot get it to work with Windows 7. I installed the drivers and the internal sound card from the console works just fine but Windows doest see the device itself. I have also updated to the newest drivers. Any ideas?

If your DJ Console Rmx is connected directly to your computer USB port, the problem may appear due to an energy saving mode setting in your USB root hub. Therefore we recommend checking the power settings for your USB devices: - Open the Device Manager: click Start/Run and enter the following command: devmgmt.msc - Click the lt;+gt; sign to the left of Universal Serial Bus controllers - Double-click USB Root Hub and select the Power Management tab - Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power - Validate your choice by clicking OK After you have made this change for all lt;USB Root Hubgt; entries and restart your computer

Does it seem like Windows 7 is really just an updated version of Windows Vista? -

The answer to your question is another question. Does it seem like Windows Vista is really just an updated version of Windows XP? Hmm...another one... Does it seem like Windows XP is really just an updated version of Windows...gulp...ME? Does it seem like Windows ME is really just an updated version of Windows 98? (Okay, I ll say no for this one.) Does it seem like Windows 98 is really just an updated version of Windows 95? Does it seem... I think you get the picture. Yes, it is just an updated Vista. And that s all it s supposed to be. Can t wait for it to come out though...

quot;So our first question to Microsoft was whether Windows 7 was a smokescreen for fixing some of the problems with Vista. “No” was the answer: “Service Packs 1 and 2 are fixing things,” said Microsoft’s Ian Moulster. “This is less about fixing things and more about building on the good stuff. This is about where we go from here.” -from macworld UK from blogs,PCworld and other places, it seems that windows 7 is kind of like adding lots of small little, useful stuff. its like Vista, but with new stuff and making what you have better. The Taskbar now sports a feature similar to Stacks, if you have multiple files in a program open they are gathered into a thumbnail preview that “stack” up when you hover over the icon in the Taskbar. a bit like the stack option in mac osx. Microsoft has more than just a few “borrowed” ideas being used to fix Vista s flaws.

actually Windows 7 is going to be a completely new OS. their redesigning it (script wise) from the ground up. soo.. i believe that most software from XP and Vista won t work on 7. visually it might look similar.. but deep down it should be completely different from what i ve read.

Considering that Windows Vista is almost 2 years old I am not surprised that Microsoft is releasing a new version of windows. Of cource it quot;looksquot; the same.. but it will have some more technical updates.

I haven t seen windows 7 yet. I ve been very happy with vista for a year now.

How long does it take to download windows 7 beta? -

I was wondering how long it should take to upgrade a pc from windows xp to windows 7 beta because right now on my other laptop it is still saying that its still loading data but its been almost 7 hours since it began the upgrade? Should i just retry and download it again or does it truly take forever to download the upgrade.

It all depends on your Broadband speed. It took me around 50 minutes. I recommend you create a seperate partition as Windows 7 Beta 1 expires in August http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... LUG.

it takes a long time so you should install it now and just wait the rest of the day so it can dowload and it depends on your computer to

Wait, you can t upgrade directly. Do you mean you are installing it? It should only take maybe 30 minutes to install.

My download only took a few minuets, the file is only 2.5gig. The download time is determined by your ISP and your download speed. If your download has been running for 7hrs and is still not done, you either have slower that 56k DL or you have a problem... If I were you, I would try the download again.

How do I get rid of windows live, and go back to Msn Messenger 7,5? -

I had to format my computer and a friend signed me up for Windows Live. I don t like it and don t want it. I sent a message to msn requesting to go back to what I had, and they directed me to Windows Live.I went to Windows Live and they directed me back to MSN Messenger to resolve the problem. I feel I m just getting the roundaround with both of them. Can anyone PLEASE help me here? Thanks, Baye.

First, uninstall Windows Live from your computer. 1.) Go to quot;Control Panelquot; 2.) Go to quot;Add or Remove Programsquot; 3.) Fine a program quot;Windows Live Messengerquot;, click it, and click quot;Removequot; button. 4.) Follow the instruction to finish it up. Now you can go any website you can download MSN 7.5, like here: http://www.download3000.com/download_155... Hope this helps!

The one last thing you can do before contacting to MSN is : 1)quot;Control Panelquot; again. 2)quot;Add/Remove Programsquot;. 3)quot;MSN Messengerquot; and click on quot;Changequot; button. 4)Then click quot;Repairquot;. If not this neither, it might not your problem, and you should contact to MSN. Report Abuse

If I dual boot Windows 7 and Vista will I lose my files that I have with vista? -

I have dual hard drive on my laptop and am wondering if i do a dual boot will I lose any files?

Hello pickedoff- There is always a risk this may happen when Beta versions of OS s are utilized. Here is what Microsoft has to say about the risk of data loss that may occur when you download Windows 7 (See 5th tab down- Are there risks in installing the Beta). http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... Jeff Windows Outreach Team

I would advise Virtual Machines rather than repartitioning. It easier, MS version if free, and if you have 2 + GB RAM and a decent machine the VMS run great.

If you shrink the partition with vista on it first, and then install 7 onto the unallocated space, then you won t lose anything. You can shrink partitions in the disk manager, which I believe you bring up by typing diskmgmt.msc into the run box.

Is Nero 6 compatible with Windows 7 i dont want Nero 7,8 or 9 as they have to much bloat over 1GB? -

http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4384569

yes and i used it already

Don t bother with Nero - use Infrarecorder - http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net . Less bloat, free and a solid bit of software! I moved over a year ago, never looked back!

Windows 7 installation? -

If I download the Windows 7 Beta and when I need to go back to Vista since I already have my Vista recovery in my hard drive will I be able to reinstall Vista without a problem? Also will I be able to upgrade to Windows 7 when the beta trail is up since my PC came already installed with Vista?

I believe you can because the Vista recovery is on a different partition. When you install Windows 7 it will be on a different partitions. Make sure you backup everything tho. I think I read something where you can t upgrade your Windows 7 Beta to the regular version when it comes out. But I believe you can with Vista.

Hello Nymetsof, I’m Rick from the Windows Outreach Team and I see you have some concerns around installing the Windows7 beta and how it might affect your Vista installation. You can find instructions for Installing or upgrading the Beta at the Windows7 page here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... Please take a look at the guide and use the easy to follow instructions to complete your Beta installation. Rick, Windows Outreach Team.

Windows 7 actually give you both options, you can either install it as an update to vista and when it expires just delete the upgrade and keep vista or if you have a second hard drive you can install it as a second operating system.

I have windows vista and dont like it. Can I replace it with windows 7? -

If I can replace windows vista how do I do that?

If you have to ask, no. 7 is a BETA - that means that it was released so that those who are beta testers can run it to report any bugs to Microsoft. Bugs can include damage to your hardware, complete wipe of your hard drive (you lose EVERYTHING), etc. It s NOT meant to be run on the computer you use. Put up with Vista until 7 is released as a non-beta. (Then you download it, burn a CD or DVD with the image [as an image, not as a file], and restart the computer with the disk. Read Microsoft s warning, though - they don t put the disclaimer in there as a joke. If you end up having to buy a new computer because of a beta release of 7, you WERE warned. I wouldn t put it on a computer that held ANY data that I considered important.

you can try this but windows 7 is beta at the mo,its like vista but with a better look and they have made big changes to the UAC witch is cool, let me know if you need any help http://www.techtree.com/India/Guides/Win...

You can replace your vista...but you need to reformat your computer to what ever program you choose. I had vista and hated it, so i went back to windows xp....if you dont know how to reformat your computer...take it to source city and they will do it for a small fee.

You can, BUT Windows 7 is a beta test program! It is not a full OS yet amp; it will only work till August of 09 then it will shut down amp; you will need to buy a copy... But if you would like to try it, here is the download link. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...

7 is just now undergoing BETA testing. If you don t like Vista, you would need to go back to XP.

windows 7 is just like vista but faster you will have to reinstall vista 8-1 2009 gt;gt;read instructions first http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...

Windows 7/xp boot problem, Help!? -

Hey guys I just partitioned some of my hard drive and installed windows 7 to it, well I was stupid and went in computer management and tried to mark the partition as active(bad idea) it now boots up saying quot;NTLDR IS MISSING CTRL-ALT-DEL TO RESTARTquot;. So right now I have the windows 7 disc in my computer and am using it try and reinstall and hopefully get to my desktop and change it to boot windows XP. So my question is am I what I m doing going to help? And how would I go about booting XP and not Windows 7 once I (hopefully) have it fixed?

It should be go back to normal. If it doesn t, you can download EasyBCD from the link below and go to the Add or Remove Entries section to add or remove any OS from the boot loader. It s a great, simple program to manage the boot loader.

You can try marking that partition as inactive as long as you know what disk and partition number it is. Go to command prompt and use the diskpart command. If your partition in question is partition 2 on disk 0, you would type: select disk 0 select partition 2 inactive exit exit If this does not fix your problem, then you may have to repair your XP os loader first, from the install disc, then install EasyBCD to fix the Vista (Windows 7) boot manager. There is a tutorial here http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_vista... that may be helpful.

type in Fix MBR with the XP disk and it will fix it.
