Question about windows 7? -

ok i just ordered a laptop and it aviously comes with windows vista but what will happen with that when they release windows 7 will they release an edition for people that allready have vista or did i screw it up by buying the computer now?

Hi Jayme L, Nice work on the new laptop! My name’s Ron and I’m working on the Windows Outreach Team. We’re here to try and answer your Windows questions. As others here have said, Windows hasn’t had any official announcements about upgrade pricing or plans as they are still accepting Beta testers into the program for Windows 7. The program is almost full, so visit http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... to download the beta version and make sure to check out the tips for installation. As Beta testing comes to a close you can check http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... for the latest information. The FAQ located at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... is also a great place for general information. I hope this clarifies a few things for you. Enjoy your new PC! Cheers, Ron Windows Outreach Team

WINDOWS 7 BETA SO FAR,IS ALMOST A MIRROR IMAGE OF VISTA.IM ALSO RUNNING THE BETA 7000 BUILD OF WINDOWS 7 AND I AM ANSWERING YOUR QUESTION RIGHT NOW WITH THE WINDOWS 7 PC.DONT JUMP THE LINE JUST YET.WINDOWS 7 DOES NOT HAVE AN EMBEDDED E-MAIL CLIENT INSTALLED SO GOODBYE WINDOWS MAIL.THE ONLY OPTION FOR E-MAIL IS THE WINDOWS LIVE E-MAIL WHICH IS A JAZZED UP VERSION OF HOTMAIL.STICK WITH VISTA FOR NOW.ITS A BETTER OPERATING SYSTEM WITH AN EMAIL CLIENT(WINDOWS MAIL) INCLUDED IN THE SOFTWARE.ALSO THE TRAY ICONS IN WINDOWS 7 ARE A STEP BACK COMPARED TO VISTA OR XP.THEY ARE TERRIBLE LOOKING.IM SHURE AND HOPE THEY WILL UPGRADE THE WAY THESE ICONS LOOK BEFORE THE FINAL RELEASE WILL BE SOLD.IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT WINDOWS 7,YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CLEAN INSTALL ON VISTA OR XP WHEN THE FINAL RELEASE IS OUT.

There has been discussion that people buying Vista after a certain point will be able to get a free upgrade to W7. Unfortunately there are no details yet. Being eligible will have a lot to do with when W7 is released and, unfortunately it may only be for purchases after later this year. Call your sales person to see what option you have. They may be nice and since you just bought allow you to upgrade later. Can t hurt to ask. Otherwise, wait until W7 is close to release and listen for updates.

First of all, no one knows as the details of Windows 7 s release haven t been disclosed yet. Secondly, I personally believe that you should never wait for new technologies (unless perhaps if it s going to come out a week later or something... and even then that s a toss up). Third, Windows 7 might not come out for years, so you d be waiting for years for your laptop. The *expected* release is still a year away.

They will be giving a free or cheap upgrade to windows 7 depending on when you buy your laptop. They haven t released the details on it yet though so I couldn t really tell you. But if you don t direly need a new laptop I would wait a little while until more information becomes available.

Well, I m sure they re release an upgrade CD, which will cost more money. So you didn t necessarily screw up buying it now, but you would have been better off waiting if you re serious about Windows 7 (I m currently trying the beta and I like it). So no, it will not be free :).

you screwed up, though you can participate in microsoft s free windows 7 beta and there might be the possibility to upgrade at a reduced price later on the development line.

no u didnt screw up u can still use vista. as u might know there are people who still use xp. if you want windows 7 though u wil have to check with if ur computer is compatible. and then buy it reinstall it.

you have to buy a windows 7 cd seperately.

You will probably have to buy Windows 7. I don t know if they are giving out free upgrade coupons yet.

You will be able to buy it just like everybody else. VISTA was an upgrade from XP. XP wan an upgrade from Windows 98 Windows 98 was an upgrade from Windows 95, get the drift? All had to be purchased.
