There are thousands of replacement windows on the market. I prefer Exact windows or Pella thermal star, Andersen. I like to stick with the larger well known brands. Call your local lumber center or home center and ask for name of a good contractor. This won t guarantee a good contractor, however it will give you a good start. Contact 3-4 to get at least 3 bids. Don t get in a big hurry. Ask questions. What brand of window is this ? Show me the warranty ! Where is this window manufactured? How long has this window company been in business under this name. How will you go about removing my old windows and installing the new ones? Will you be hauling the old windows and other debris off my property? Are you willing to provide me with a certificate of insurance for your company? * This shows this contractor is protecting you from any injuries his employees may suffer while working on your home. This is a must have. About how long will this take? Do you require any money down? * Do not pay any more than 10-20% down and state you will give him the downpayment when the windows are delivered to your home. Ask contractor if you can see an actual window either in a showroom or a home he has installed them in. Insist on a written out contract that is detailed and lists the window numbers or item # the color, what type of glass such as Low E, or argon gas filled, Insulated, the quantity. You obviously have a computer so you can do a Yahoo Search on these windows and read about them. Base your choice not on the lowest price, but on how well you like the company representative. Window salesmen/women can be very pressuring. Do not sign any proposal the same day they come out to see you. They always say this special promotion ends today, but it doesn t. Try to find a smaller contractor who owns and operates his/her own company, you may in fact get to have an estimate made by the owner. Come back to yahoo Answers when you get your prices and put out another question like quot; Are these window installation prices fairquot; Good Luck
