Installing Windows 7? -

I don t really think this is just for windows 7, but probably windows xp and vista also, so feel free to answer any way. I have a 160 GB disk with 2 partitions- one 30 gig one for my current winxp system, and a 120 gig one for storage. I want to install the windows 7 beta on the 120 gig partition, but i ran into a problem. When i try to set up windows 7, it asks me which partition i want to install on, and I can t partition the 120 gig drive further for a new Windows 7 partition. I was wondering....if I say to install Win7 on the 120 gig partition, will it erase all of my files, or install on the leftover space (30 gig)? Will it make a new partition? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You need to split that 120gb space, format it and install Windows 7 on it (and dual boot). Here s a nice tutorial that explains how to: http://lifehacker.com/5126781/how-to-dua...

move all Your files first it will erase every thing on the partition.if you have partitioning software like partition genuis you could create, resize to suit your needs

Hey, If you install Windows7 on the 120gb Parition, it will only FORMAT that partion. The other left over space will still be there so you can use it for another OS, or something like that Cheers, Calvin s Network Web Host

Due to the nature of the new Windows 7 OS, there are many new things being discovered in it. What you want to do is, when you see the list of drives being shown, there is an quot;Advancedquot; button below the partitions listed. Click this, there you should be able to manually setup your partitions. If this option is not available to you, download Gparted, a free open source ISO Image that allows you to boot from the disc to partition and handle your hard drive before installing Windows 7. The URL: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ Also, if you do not do the partitioning manually, Windows 7 will create a second partition 200MB in size that is designed as a recovery partition such as those that HP and others put on your system. If you manually create the partition yourself, Windows 7 will not create that second partition.
