Can t answer without knowing what you have; CPU, hard drive space, amount of RAM. If the old one cannot run Vista odds are Windows 7 will not work any better.
I guess the really short answer is if you are in doubt, don t . However, don t go with the minimums with this OS. You need a DVD-RW drive to create the disk and install the OS. 2GB of RAM should be good. At the minimum, a 40GB hard drive - bigger is better. You should have a DVI video card of some kind and not an analog (VGA). ::my 2-cents worth::
