Windows 7 Beta Question? -

I am about to install Windows 7 Beta and I dont know if programs like Microsoft Word, iTunes, WMP, Zone Alarm Software would work on it. Anyone know?

Hey baller- My name is Jeff and I work with the Windows Outreach Team. Because this is only a beta version, it is not guaranteed that all programs will work with it. Ideally, if it works with Vista, it *should* work with Windows 7 Beta. You should however be fine with Word, and WMP12 is packaged in the Windows 7 beta. Best, Jeff Windows Outreach Team

all current vista software will work on it.

Can i dual boot Windows Vista SP1 And Windows 7? -

i want to dual boot windows vista sp1 ultimate 32 bit and windows 7 beta 64 bit can this be done

yes it can, search Google. There are tutorials all over on how.

If downloaded from torrent/warez yes. If downloaded from Microsoft , it will be difficult to dual boot.

Yes. Theres Tutorials on youtube! : ) thanks!

Does Itunes work in windows 7 beta? -

I was thinking of installing the new windows beta and was. Wondering if iTunes worked in it?

it will work

Yes I am having no problems with iTunes on Windows 7 at this end. LUG.

im hoping you realise that you MUST backupall important data before installing windows 7 and you should make sure you have a reboot disk for your xp or vista! It is a beta version for a reason so they can let the public test it to find out whats wrong with it.. this version could crash and loose all your important data. from reading a few websites itunes does work but if you are using the 64bit os of windows 7 then there are a few problems with it not synching with the iphone, i wil include the link in my sources section. If you want to do what im doing, which means you dont need to loose your data or delete your current operating system then download virtual pc from the microsoft website and install the iso of windows 7 onto that.. alot safer in my opinion

Is there any talk yet on what Windows 7 will offer? -

Yes, here are some screenshots; http://techtoday.110mb.com/2007/12/16/wi... http://forums.it-suite.net/index.php/top...

When is windows 7 going to be released ? -

i mean exaclty in 2009 what month =D thx

Not soon enough. But, I m old (and wise) enough to know that you always wait for SP2 to come out before jumping into a brand new O/S. Win98, anyone??

Who cares, it s still Vista, just with a bunch of updates and junk.

Windows 7 ? -

Instead of getting a Vista now, should I wait for the Windows 7? I have the latest XP. Is there any point of getting a Vista if Windows 7 is coming out in the future?

If your happy with XP there is no point in getting Vista. It s extremely resource hungry anyway. Windows 7 is expected to be released on June 3, 2009 according to the most recent news lacking official Microsoft confirmation [1], and sometime near January 2010 according to an earlier claim by a Microsoft VP. [2]

I don t know if you ve been reading the message board or checking forums on the Web, but Vista is a flop and regarded as on of the worst roll outs and waste of time in the software industry. XP is still regarded as the best OS that Microsoft ever put out. There are editions of Vista that do not have all the functions of XP and Vista is definitely a slower OS that hogs a lot of RAM for no reason. The bloated OS forces users to buy more expensive hardware just to get the same performance that XP gives XP. It is better to have the hardware you have driving your applications, instead of pushing a bloated Vita OS. IE7 on Vista sucks and frankly,Vista gives users NO reason to upgrade unless you re into Direct 10X that is used for gaming. 99% don t need it. Beyond that, there are no additional features in Vista that make it quot;betterquot; than XP. I was a life lone Microsoft advocate on everything. But when my computer broke down, I needed a computer that worked and right then. Unfortunately all I could get were Vista computers-I see stories like this all over the web. Unfortunately for me, at that time, for the type of computer I was wanted, if I wanted a different XP on my PC, I would have been forced to pay for Vista Enterprise (there are no specs on what features it has) and then also XP and also spend days making sure I have all the drivers. No way I m going to spend money for two OS when the newer one, Vista, from the same company is seriously flawed. I got so fed up, I returned my computer after a few weeks and got a Mac. I then loaded XP and the office suite and use the XP stuff for business and simple things. But when I want to have fun on the computer, find myself on the Mac side. My point is not to push Macs-for me I was forced into that because of Vista and my needs. But, instead, you should pat you on the back for being smart enough to have XP-you have the best system out there for PCs. If you are looking for a new look on XP and simplicity I would recommend checking out checking out Rocket Dock that makes your computer function more naturally-It s something I did on the XP application of my Mac and helped load onto some of my friends computers. Here is a link if you re interested http://www.metacafe.com/watch/yt-Lo-xerK... A virus free link if you are interested in downloading As for Windows 7.Let s face it, MS has had serious trouble delivering and innovating. It took them 8.5 years to roll out the version of Vista they have now and really, all they did is change the shell and even with that and so much time not real innovations or improvements. Don t get me wrong,XP is still excellent, but Linux is still in the catch up mode and beginning to innovate. When they can get their OS simpler to operate with fewer error messages to compete with XP in a year or two, there s no question that unless MS innovates and gets out of the mode in making Windows 7 just to keep out companies who markets they are trying to invade, there s going to be a changing of the guard. In other words in two years, MS will probably going head to head for the first time and not against one company they can step on like in the past, but two for their OS and one, possibly 2-3 on their Office Suite. It is expected to be a toe to toe battle and you might be wanting something different as your OS at that time- Another reason to still with XP I hope I ve been helpful

Having used Vista on company and other machines, I would say avoid it like the plaque. Even Microsoft (albeit unofficially) have admitted that it s a bit, erm, poo! There s a chance they ve learnt their lesson and Windows 7 will be okay but with support for XP continuing into 2011, there s no need to upgrade now.

stick with xp and then wait before you buy windows 7 to read the reviews of it and wait to test it out in a store youbdont want to go out and buy another os like vista

HANG ON TO XP AND DO NOT PURCHASE WINDOWS 7 UNTIL IT HAS BEEN THOROUGHLY TESTED - JUST LOOK AT VISTA

Stick with XP and wait for windows 7 i hope we finally get WinFS :D

How to Install Windows 7 onto a Virtual PC without scrapping a Vista Installation.? -

I just downloaded the Windows 7 Beta 1 32bit edition and burned it to a disk. I have Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 installed onto Windows Vista. I began to install Windows 7 onto a virtual hard disk, until I was prompted whether I should Upgrade my version of Windows, or do a Custom installation. I do not know which choice I should choose. I do not want to get rid of Vista, and want 7 to be installed onto the Virtual Hard Disk. Should I choose Custom? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Don t worry, this is just how the installation starts, just make sure you are running it on the virtual machine. You should choose custom since there is no version to upgrade. Just follow the on screen instructions.

you can use a new partition. It s easy and you can easily delete it afterward. Google would provide a better explanation, but what you need to do is this: 1. in the search bar in vista type quot;computer managementquot; 2. Go to the quot;disk managementquot; tab on the side. 3. right click on a partition (try the biggest) and click quot;shrink volumequot; 4. If you re just trying it, only partition 10 or 20 GB. It will be close enough if you type in 10000 or 20000. After it s done shrinking, when you go to install windows 7, install it on the new partition. 5. If you re worried about your computer getting effed up, go to acronis and download their recovery thing, then do a complete disk backup. That will put everything back no matter what.

I have a product key for windows 7 beta...however i dont wish to download now...? -

Since microsoft is only allowing 2.5 million keys, and i have one now. Can i download the software at a later date, even if all the keys are gone?

I would imagine you could use it any time, once you have it nobody else can use it.

I doubt they ll remove it from the servers once the keys are gone, to allow people to ddownload later. Even if so, there will probably be alternatie sources (like BitTorrent, which already has a copy circulating anyway). Just remember, the beta keys are only valid through August or so... but if you mean wait until next week or so, there hsouldn t be any problem finding the download.

Don t forget the planned expiration date for the beta is 08/01/09 at this time. You will need to get it before that time, but I imagine the key is good until that time.

Probably.

Should I go 64-bit Windows 7? -

I got my Computer back in April 2007 with Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I have since ton a few upgrades on it. Now Windows 7 is coming. Should I got 64-bit or stick 32-bit? All my Apps are 32-bit.Will 32-bit die in the next 2 years? Here are my specs- NVIDIA 9400 GT 512MB AMD 64-BIT DUAL CORE PROCESSOR 2.20GHz 3GB DDR2 RAM LightScribe DVD Burner Driver FireWire 9 USB Ports and a SD Card Reader in the front. or should I switch to Linux? LOL

Answer to main question: Switching to 64bit with your current specifications will not give you any real performance enhancements. I would stick with the 32-bit OS for now. Why: The key difference between 64 and 32 bit systems, for most users, is that 64 bit systems can make use of more than 4GB of RAM. As you have 3GB, switching to 64 bit will not necessarily be an improvement. As more applications are coded for 64-bit systems, you will want to switch regardless of specifications. Answer 2: (Will 32 bit die in the next 2 years?) Yes... and no. You will likely begin to see more 64-bit applications, especially games, hit the market in the coming years. However, most software companies have little to nothing in the pipeline specifically for 64-bit systems. I think in about a year you will see the first 64-bit specific software hit the market, but you should be able to stick with 32-bit for 2-3 years without much trouble. Implied Question: Your system will run 64-bit specific applications :)

No because you are not very smart. read this from Yahoo Tech and Daily Features. here it goes. The real difference is that Windows 7 Home Basic -- the much-reviled stripped-down version of Vista that was designed for bare-bones PCs -- is now being shunted to emerging markets only, though it will still exist. But to confuse matters, a Windows 7 Starter edition, which will run only three applications simultaneously, will also be available. it well not do 1/2 much as vista basic. There very little drivers it. You better with XP window s or Vista Home Premium. You need to think about loading it and trying to use it. You may cry about now and here is something wipe your tears away.

I have PC that came with the 32 bit and I reburned it with the 64bit version. I really don t see that much difference with how I use this box, which is internet, gaming and music playing and creating. I do have more problems with running older applications with the 64bit. Some apps just don t run well on a 64 bit OS and in some cases they wont even install. So for my next reburn I m going with the 32 bit.

nice specs, but your RAM is horrible. Buy at least 2 Gigs (Because Windows seven derived from Vista, which ate up a lot of ram just to run at normal speed) (About 32-bit dying) i don t think so, since many computers as of now still run 32-bit. So you should hang on to that thought well after 2 years.

Windows 7 will run fine on that. The main feature of Windows 64 bit, is if you have 4 or more GBs of RAM. YOu don t so you don t need it. It uses more power too. Stick with 32 bit unless you plan on upgrading your RAM.

yeah when the full proper version of windows 7 comes out change to it linux is good because its the most lightweight OS but it takes a litle time to get use to and most windows programs dont work even when using WINE

Windows 7 is BETA NOT LIVE!!!!! windows 7 is out in 2010 you will need 64 bit just stick with what you have till 7 is released and get 64 bit.

2 points!

Why wont internet work on Windows 7 using VMWare Fusion? -

Hey everyone, I have a problem with getting internet hooked up to Windows 7 that I m running as a VM on VMWare. I m using Mac OSX 10.5.6 and VMWare Fusion 2.0.1. I m not sure which settings it s supposed to be on for internet either and that my be the problem, but thanks if you answer!

Because Windows 7 is shite. Use an alternative.

I m running Windows 7 in virtualbox no problem: http://www.virtualbox.org/ Once you install Windows 7, be sure to install the guest additions by clicking quot;Devicesgt;Install Guest Additionsquot; You have to run the guest additions in a compatibility mode for Vista, though

From which website i can download Windows 7 Beta operating system amp; how can i create a windows 7 bootable DVD? -

The original Windows 7 Beta download from the Microsoft site only let the first 2.5 million people download it then it was removed from the site. The only way of downloading it now would be via torrent sites probably, although your not allowed to do that ;-) If you do find a copy you can download it will depend on what kind of file it is as to how you can burn it to DVD. If you download an .iso file then this is just an exact image of what it would be on the DVD so you can just burn it with Nero etc to a blank disc.

Try the following url But u want to get it from the list. Best regards...

Buy vista now or wait for windows 7? -

I have a dell Dimension 4550 but suspects it s time for something new. I run internet, office files (home based business) and photos etc. Question is do I buy now and move to Vista (I ve heard al the terrible things) or wait until 2010 for Windows 7? Any advice greatly appreciated!

wait for windows 7

Vista is fine. It was a bit buggy at first, but if you buy a new PC with Vista installed on it you won t have any problems. The majority of the complaints come from people who install it on old hardware that s really not fast enough, or those who are frustrated by the new interface. Windows 7 is still in beta, and the release date will probably slip. And after Windows 7 comes out, people will complain about how horrible it is and say that Vista is much better or that you should wait for Windows 8. That s what always happens. All the stuff people say about Vista was said about XP when it came out - it was buggy, bloated, had a bad interface etc. If you need a new PC, just go ahead and get one with Vista. Make sure you get at least a dual core processor (quad core is better) and 2+ GB of RAM.

If you need a new pc, then Vista is fine - go for home premium not home basic. The hardware of a new Vista PC will be of higher spec than an XP model and will run Windows 7 if you later decide to upgrade. If you wait a while, you may find Vista pcs being sold with future upgrades to Win7 included, either free or at a discount. The upgrade path for Vista Home Premium will be (it is believed) Windows 7 Home Premium.

If you haven t moved to Vista yet, then just wait. Vista is fine if you have a fast enough computer. some of that well be fixed in Windows 7, but by them most people well have a faster computer.

Might as well wait and save the dough.

vista is fine since sp1 all the terrible things about vista are from all xp users that are afraid of change

Wait for Windows 7 which should be out in 2009.

Dont buy anything. Download it.

Windows 7 Limited Connectivity problem? -

I recently upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Beta. After the installation, I have had consistent problems connecting the internet through Ethernet. The connection will be working fine when it changes from quot;local and internet accessquot; to quot;limited connectivityquot;. I am able to disable the adapter and then enable it again, but the problem comes back a mere few minutes later.

j_ririe20- Hi, my name s Cody, and I m working with the Windows 7 Outreach Team to help point users towards some resources that ll help them address their issues with the Windows 7 Beta. Since Windows 7 is a beta edition, your best bet for fixing your conectivity problems will probably be either checking with the adapter s manufacturer to see if they have any suggestions for you, or checking on the Microsoft technet site. It s a great resource to look around on and see if there are other beta users having similar issues to yours, and how they may have corrected them: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Foru... I hope this is helpful! Thanks, Cody Windows Outreach Team

Hence the word BETA

Where can i Download internet explorer 7 for windows vista for free? -

please help

There is no charge for IE7, regardless of what operating system you re using. You can download it directly from the Microsoft website: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/product... That link will also give you the option to download the new Internet Explorer 8 - but bear in mind that it is still in Beta, ie. not the final version, and you may encounter bugs. I am currently trying it myself and have found several websites that do not display correctly - yet. However, I have yet to use an IE browser that is actually any good. You should join millions of other people and try either Mozilla Firefox or Opera. I use both and they are so much faster than any version of IE.

Doesnt it come built in with Vista? If not. Windows.com and/or google http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloa...

How do i downgrade from windows 7 back to vista? -

I need to downgrade back to my old OS because of some compatibility issues.

You would have been better off using 7 in vmware- the version going around is a beta, hence the problems. if you installed it as an upgrade then have a look in control panelgt; remove programs (not sure if it is possible to install as an upgrade if you cannot do it there you will need to back everything up and reinstall vista. The link given by dillon will not help. the sticker with the licence on the pc is an OEM not an original. EDIT------------------------ You can download a new copy of vista from piratebay.com and then change the PID so that it becomes an OEM version and then use your licence key you will need to get the drivers from the maker of the pc

If you read the instruction when you where installing 7 you should have made a windows restore back up copy of your vista hard drive if you did then all s well and good if you didn t you are in trouble then, If you don t have vista install disk then it is a case of buying one, or downloading a copy of Linux 2009 operating system and installing that. Linux is free to download and use with all the software you will ever need also free to download All the links below are where you can download any of the 2009 linux operating systems

you cant just use system restore you have to go get the vista disks and re install them next time you need to do research windows 7 is still in beta you never run a beta as your main os on your main computer edit: you dont have the disks then you have to go and buy them if you dont then your stuck with an os that is gonna expire in august and has bugs next time you really need to do your research before you go and install an os on your computer

During the installation it will usually take your old stuff and throw it in a quot;windows.oldquot; directory. I do not know whether this will work or not, but you could try just deleting your windows, users, and program files directories, and replacing them with the folders in your windows.old directory. You will need either a linux live cd, Bart s PE, or the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows in order to try this.

There is a microsoft link in sources, if you click it you can order a cd of your version for free, provided you have access to the product key, which is on a sticker located somewhere on the side of your computer. PS use the upgrade option from 7, that way you ll still have all your files

Try and ask your manufacturer for a disk, i got disks for my dell

Im trying to install windows 7 beta on my moms windows xp 32 bit, AND? -

There is only 1 partition on C drive and that is for XP, i tried using partition magic 8 but i kept getting an error message saying ERROR:27 cannot lock drivequot; So I cant install the beta without completely destroying XP. and since i bought the cpu from HP there is no XP disk. so i cant just revert from windows 7 back to XP when the deadline is here. what do i do now?

boot the windows XP in safe mode and then run partition magic software. using partition magic 8, create a new partition. and install windows 7 in that drive.

PROTIP: Never install a Windows beta. That s because all Microsoft releases are one higher than they should really be. Meaning: Alphas are the quality of crap Betas are the quality of Alphas Releases are the quality of Betas Service Pack 1 are quality of Release.

Does your mom know you re installing an experimental operating system on her PC? Vista still is hardly stable enough to use. It will be several years before I d even be remotely comfortable putting Windows 7 on my computer, let alone my mother s.

Is it true that we get FREE windows 7 from microsoft website itself? -

i use a genuine vista home basic..... i got windows 7 FREE in microsoft website(download) can i trust it ? how long will it last ?what will happen then? help plz

The Windows 7. Is BETA. It means that it is being tested and that Microsoft are looking for feedback from those whom download and try it. It will expire. August i believe, but i may be slightly incorrect on when. ~ Mike

It is a BETA version so it is not guaranteed to work perfectly - it is still in test. That is why it is free - so it can be tested by users. Like any test version it is NOT receommended to use on your main system. It will last until August 2009. After that it will stop functioning and you must reinstall Vista or Windows 7 if it is available by then. Projected to be available late 2009 or early 2010. I would not be using it for my only PC right now. If you do decide to install it you really should read the notices on the Windows 7 Beta website. Problems could occur if you don t.

Yes you can get it, Only beta testers should load it however or you should load it if you plan to do dual boot or have it as a virtual program like vmware as example. You will most likely have beta for a 120days around ish. and then will expire, it recommends u only use it for Testing reasons only. not for gaming or anything else. and it says Quote quot;It can be glitchy—so don t use a PC you need every day.quot;

There is a limited number of people allowed to download the beta edition you can still get it but once they close it off you wont be able to get it until its release. The beta version will last until the general release of windows 7 they only release the beta edition so you can help them work out the faults that they have in there system it wont be 100% stable.

Go to: http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.a... check it out for yourself. There is a long list of software, trial and other. The trial period for Windows 7 Beta expires in August 2009. But Windows 7 Beta only works with Home premium, Ultimate and Business. They also suggest that you be experienced enough to shoot your own trouble should problems arise.

Remember though: Using Windows7 as your primary OS is illegal. The terms of use explicitly state that the Beta OS is to only be used for testing. (Of course all you have to do is leave vista on your computer, and enjoy MutliTouch and the other amazing windows7 features as much as you want :P

yes but it is beta and beta means it a copy that microsoft made and waits for replays from people who download my friends downloaded it and when u standby it or logoff it , it doesnt work so u need to restart and it will expire and u will need to put another windows so dont use

Its a beta version of windows 7. Microsoft is planning to shut it down this august, onces then all windows 7 OS will be locked.

its only the beta so it might have so bugs but they have had updates for it its not the whole thing it wont come out til prob 2010 but you can try it out if you like

Its beta!!

no

Windows 7 Beta ? -

I am just downloading windows 7 beta from microsoft website. I have got the activation key but i was just wondering if this windows 7 beta is a trail or is it to use for life without any time or other limites? Thanks. ~Jamie~

It will quit working on August 1, 2009.

Hey Jamie- As others have pointed out the Beta will expire Aug. 1st, at which time you will need to reinstall Vista if you performed an upgrade installation or wipe out your Windows 7 partition if you dual-booted. This second method is the safest way to try out the Beta. Here is a tutorial on how to dual boot if you are interested. http://lifehacker.com/5126781/how-to-dua... Cheers, Jeff Windows Outreach Team

It will stop working in August 2009. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... Read the seventh point.

To my knowledge, Microsoft does not release any life-time without limits software during beta rounds. For this Windows beta, I think the expiration date is set on 1st Aug 2009.

I run on windows 2000. Installed messenger 7 for speed. Now my computer is slower than earlier. Reason? -

The promise of better speed with Windows Messenger 7.0 is not realised after installation. Wish to pass this feedback to Microsoft as I have agreed to take part in their program to feed feedbacks to improve their application:WM7

I haven t had any problems with explorer 7. How much memory do you have on your computer? The more you use the slower your computer gets. You may need to defrag to free up some space or remove unused programs that you have installed.

IE7 is optimized mainly for XP, that s probably why you are experiencing a reduced speed. I would recommend switching back to 6.

I have heard many opinions that Messenger 7.0 is a trouble maker. get rid of it good luck

Windows 7?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? -

On a range of 1 to 10 how satisfied are you with Windows 7 BETA??

It is just Vista with new drapes...

9

It s a bunch of crap. It s vista with a few things changed by the feedback they got. Same OS with some minor changes, stick with vista, it s easy to use, unless you re an idiot.

1 i tried it for like two weeks and i was done.If your going to use it to play games you ll need like a million gb of ram.It swallows them. They should do a modified version of xp.why would someone want a pretty os.A girl maybe.

I gave it a shot for about 2 days. That s all I had the patience for! I ll keep my Vista, thank you very much! I ll wait for 7 until the stable version is out..maybe. I was just curious so I tried it. I like Vista so I don t really see myself switching.

6, the best I have ever given MS products.

Here is my experience with Windows 7 Beta to date. It boots up around 20% faster than Vista and it runs blisteringly fast for me with these specs. 2.4ghz P4 CPU 1gb PC2100 RAM 256mb GeForce 6200 Much better performance than Vista on the same machine. Install Google Chrome http://www.google.com/chrome as Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 (RC is not available for Windows 7 Beta) still has a fair few bugs. Windows Media Player 12 is awesome, finally no need for a third party application. It has the speed and stability of XP, and the looks and security of Vista. In short its everything Vista should have been and can t wait for the final release. And I am primarily a Linux user. Its the first time I have been impressed by a Microsoft product since Windows 98se. I would go even as far as to give it a 9/10 LUg.

About to download windows 7 PLEASE READ DETAILS? -

I have a laptop with a 32 bit version of windows vista I have enough RAM and disk space I downloaded an ISO burner and Im backing up my computer as I type so Im just making sure that I have everything I need I dont want to know what it is like and i dont care what you say about it all i wnat to know is if I have everything i need

You can download it with no errors.I m sure about it.It didn t give me any errors. If you are using vista you can just upgrade it to windows 7.I m using it and it s awesome...JUST don t forget to write the serial key on a paper...you can install it without the serial ant you can change the product key later. But it would be easy to install the serial key when installing.

The only other thing I can think of is device drivers. The Windows Vista drivers should work fine in 7. You can usually get the drivers from your computer manufacturer s website. But other than that, you have everything you need It s good that you re backing up. I see a lot of people on here lately asking quot;I installed Windows 7, how do I go back to Vista?quot;

good. make sure ur backup works though before u do this. i heard stories where ppl make backups and they dont work. u also need a dvd. and i license key. http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/01/11...

Yeah you will be fine. One of the big things you need to do is backup your music! There was a bug found in WMP which would edit the metadata of certain songs and cause certain songs to lose about the first 3 - 5 sec of the song(s). They have a patch which you can download here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...

What tach specs would you need in your pc to run windows 7? -

The changes in OS are never large enough for a high end computer to be made completely obsolete. If you look at trends of the computer moving from window s 95 up to vista the changes for optimal performance usually doubled that of its last predecessor. Even medium end Xp systems from 4 years ago can run vista. Since your computer is beyond a normal store bought spec i would have to say from a educated point of view yes it can. And should still do it quite well, But as the previous poster said thats something that can change in a instant if they make the OS for a certain CPU or a certain hardware that you don t have. But yeah you should find other things to worry about for the next 3-4 years :-). Cause no matter what to stay current you will want a new computer anyway.

Are you for real? Nobody knows for sure when Windows 7 will be released, the earliest estimates are for LATE 2009 or mid 2010. Even if you bought a new computer now it would be close to 3 years old by then, so find something else to worry about in the meantime and just by a new computer then.

How can i use Vista x64 and Windows 7 side to side? -

I m just an enthusiast, and i like this stuff... i want to know what i need to get Windows 7 (beta) to work with my current set-up, Vista Ultimate x64... (i dont know whether to post my computer stats or not..)...kind of like on the Leopard OS, and VMWare or BootCamp... along those lines, where i can just install it if i need to... After downloading 7 Windows Updates, my laptop says No Audio Devices are installed. WTF? -

I have Windows Vista... after dowloading the updates (like my computer told me to) my 2 month old laptop says No Audio Devices are installed... Funny, seeing I was listening to music just before I had to respart. What can I do???

Don t do a system restore because many people are having this problem including me. Follow these instructions. The sswsetup folder contains all the installation setups of drivers and programs installed on setup. Hope it helps. 1. Open C Drive 2. Find swsetup folder and open it 3. Find Audio folder 4. Start the setup

it seems like the audio drivers needs to be reinstalled . click start - in the search bar type device manager - hit enter - device manager window open - click on the + on the sound , video and game controllers - right click on the first option for the sound driver uninstall that and restart the pc ..in the mean time when the pc would be restarting ..as soon as you see the first screen ..( if you have HP or compaq ..you would see hp invent :) start tapping f10 - u would see the BIOS utility screen and then press f5 to load default settings and then press f10 to save settings and then the pc would restart ....gt;gt; im sure this would work ..if doesnt go to the website of your computer company and then go to driver downloads and update the driver for the sound gt; c ya

do a system restore click start type system restore in the start search bar press enter click on system restore restore to a point before the updates

I have had the EXACT same problem with MY 2 month old Presario Laptop. Email me your laptop Brand and Model and i ll help you (if you Want)

Will my programs run after upgrading to Windows 7? -

(1) I m currently running Windows Vista Ultimate SP 2 (2) I m going to upgrade to Windows 7 Beta 7000 (3) Will my programs work once I upgrade? (4) Can I still connect my hardware devices which are vista compatible? (5) Specifically, Can I connect my 3rd Generation Zune 120 GB?

You do realize it is still in Beta 1a testing..? And you better backup all of your files first on to DVD or an external HDD!

As of tomorrow it is a public beta. It is one step away from being the final build, and aside from performance tweaks there won t be much different so don t worry about stability. Every program I had installed on Vista works fine in Windows 7. Compatibility issues should be rare, but it is advisable to keep Vista installed on a separate partition in case errors do occur and while data loss is rare, you should always back your stuff up when undertaking such a task.

Like the others have said, there is a possibility that they won t. Win 7 beta is meant for people to take a look at, it is not fully stable or ready for full use yet. Also, when you instal it, weather you format your HDD or use different partitions, your programs wont be there and you will need to reinstal everything.

uhh you are gonna upgrade to a beta betas are for testing meaning there could be tons of bugs and shouldnt be used as your main os stick with XP then upgrade once windows 7 isnt in beta and is actually finished

Yes i just upgrading to Windows 7 7000 and everything run just fine

not all product will work on windows 7 because it s still in beta..so my advise is wait for the full version of windows 7 to come out..or if u insist, back up all your file before changed to windows 7.. Peace

What will the Windows 7 UI look like? -

and how do you think it will differ from windows Vista?

Hopefully, it will work.

anything will be better than vista

How to become windows 7? -

what can i do to transform my window xp to windows 7..can u help me?? tnx

At this time there is no way you can get ahold of Windows 7. It is still in development. You will have to wait for at least a beta (public test) version of the operating system. Then when the full release comes out you will have to buy a copy and replace XP with it.

Windows 7 has not been released yet. As far as I know its still in an alpha stage.

Windows 7 Business Edition? -

It is widely known that Microsoft is distributing Windows 7 beta with legitimate licenses. I got Windows 7 image and installed Business Edition on my laptop. I want to activate it but the keys available are not applicable to business edition. Does anyone know a key which works on the business edition of Windows 7 Beta ? Thanks,

Windows 7 BETA is available for download from http://microsoft.com as an iso file which then has to be burned to DVD which then becomes your boot disk. It comes with a Product Key. The BETA edition is Windows 7 Ultimate - for testing purposes only. If you think you have Windows 7 Business Edition, you would need to go back to the site you downloaded it from and ask them about a Product Key

Was the quot;Mojave Experiment really the newest version of Windows after Vista? -

This is based on rumors going around that they might be advertising Vista but they really are testing out Windows 7. BTW if you don t know what Windows 7 is, you should youtube it.

No its just Windows Vista

quot; The Mojave Experimentquot; Was when they went around asking people that hated vista if they like the quot;Mojavequot; OS .. They said yes. and the joke was on them, because it was actually just vista. You actually believe what you see on you tube videos?.. your hopeless.

Is there a program compatibility utility for Windows 7? -

I m running Windows 7 in virtual PC, but I m thinking about upgrading my installation of windows vista to the windows 7 beta. the only thing is, i don t want to face any compatibility issues with my card reader, capture card, or software like my image mounting program. Is there a program, like there was for Windows Vista when it was in beta, that would allow me to see which programs are going to work? Thanks.

windows 7 supports all drivers for vista, so you shouldnt have problems there. you can also run programs in compability mode, so far i havent run into any compability issues with any program

No there isn t, as Windows 7 is still in beta mode the OS is not yet set in stone, and therefore any compatibility app they make might be out of date by the time it is released. Most generic devices should work ok (card readers etc), however other devices such as graphics cards, video capture cards etc might not have drivers that work yet, however keep in mind that Windows 7 is based on Vista, so you might get lucky using Vista drivers.

Microsoft has stated that every program and every device that is compatible with Vista should be compatible with Windows 7, so there shouldn t be a problem. As you are running Vista already, you can simply click upgrade during the installation, and all programs and settings will also be retained. If you are ever to add new devices, check if they are compatible by going to: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compati...

There aren t many compatibility issues with Windows 7 and hardware at this point in time, but there is a compatibility mode as in Vista and XP that will allow most things to run. If you can t find a driver for something, it ll probably be up in a new build soon.

Yes there is, if you right-click and select properties you can run in previous versions of Windows compat mode. Though, if it worked in Vista there is a strong chance it will work in 7.

Windows 7 will support most if not all of your Vista software and more XP software than Vista supported. There shouldent be any problems. P.S. I am also beta testing Windows 7 it looks great

thats why beta is for testing to find problems and vista is not beta anymore it is a released operating system

I have just installed windows 7 and google chrome and found out that one of my favourite site is not working ? -

a site that loaded very well with google chrome in vista is now not loading and saying that the site may have crashed or may have moved to a new adress but when i try to tnter the same site with firefox or explorer it loads perfactly , what should i do ?

What is the site?

It probably is cookies. Go to options in Google Chrome. Go to Under the hood. Go down until you see Cookie Settings. It should be the second one, Restrict how third party cookies can be used. Good Luck! Let me know if this doesn t work. I have another answer. :D

The site may require Java/Flash/Silverlight to be installed before the content loads. Try installing these applications and trying to run the site again. Hope that helps.

How would Windows 7 run on my computer? -

I have a quite outdated computer, but I want to try out the Windows 7 beta. Here are my system specs: CPU: Celeron 2.00GHz RAM: 1GB DDR2 GPU: ATI Radeon X300 128MB I can run vista fine, but it s slower than my XP. Will this OS do better than Vista? I don t expect it to be faster than XP, I just want to try all the new features and get the feel of it so I can decide if I should put Vista or 7 when I get a new PC.

Looking at the specs of your system, I would not under any circumstances currently attempt to run Windows 7. The minimum RAM requirement is going to be 1GB, and you will need a GPU which is capable of 128MB onboard. However, as I have a friend on the Beta testing panel for W7, he has advised me that to get the best possible use from it, you will need at least 8GB of RAM, and a GPU capable of coping with DX10 with room to spare. If you intend to run Windows 7 smoothly, you are going to need to make some serious improvements to your system in its present state.

if you install it dual boot and read all the instructions gt;and yes it is faster than vista and both are far better and more stable than xp Minimum recommended specs call for: 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor 1 GB of system memory 16 GB of available disk space Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB memory (to enable the Aero theme) DVD-R/W Drive Internet access (to download the Beta and get updates) http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...

By many testimonies off www.notebookreview.com, people claim better battery lives on their notebooks, faster load times, and a numerous improvements from switching to Windows 7. So yeah, i m pretty confident that 7 would do better than vista =D

If i install windows 7 beta and after the trial ends will i still be able to have vista? (i dont have the disc? -

no, you would be screwed over. You can run both if you want? Ill set you up a tutorial buddy. http://lifehacker.com/5126781/how-to-dua...

if you dont have the disk then you can t go back to vista unless you buy the vista disc if you dont want to buy the disk run windows 7 as a virtual machine then you dont have to format your hdd and you can keep vista and if your not a beta tester and have never tested a beta and you dont know much about computers i dont recommend using the beta

you need the disk to reinstall vista

Vista to Windows 7 upgrade? -

I know the release of Windows 7 is not going to be until late 2009 early 2010 but I m starting my research now so that I m prepared when the time comes. I ve recently got a Dell xps running vista Home premium. I don t see the problem with Vista that people complain about aside from the original compatibility issues which don t really affect me at this stage in Vista s life cycle. I d be happy to stay with Vista but I think I shall upgrade to Windows 7 depending on the cost. So firstly, when is the best time to upgrade? I was thinking waiting a few months or so for the reviews etc before doing so but some people recommend waiting for sp1 which is going to be an extra year on top and I d rather not do that. Also, clean install or upgrade? As my computer is pretty new and I have all the Dell software loaded on it I d rather not have to reinstall all that but I know that in the year or so before Windows 7 arrives my computer is likely to bloat with junk files etc so is a clean install better? Finally, my computer came preloaded with a recovery partition, would a clean install wipe this? how would i update this recovery partition so that it would recover windows 7 and not try to revert back to vista?

Microsoft just love people like you.

Since it is not released yet don t even consider upgrading. They will release it when they feel it is necessary. Just be happy you got a computer because many people around the world have none. Also you have an up to date system. Go to India they are still using windows 98 in internet cafes.

Firstly you ll need a brand new computer then you ll need to buy lots of new softwre then you ll need 32 gig memory modules Then youll need a 10 terrabyte HD then it ll have bugs then it ll need SP1 then they ll bring out another windows quot;Windows for Foolsquot; and you can start all over again isnt microsoft wonderful!!!!!!!!

Best time to upgrade is when you ve seen some reviews, if they say wait for SP1, then wait for SP1. Clean install is always better, upgrades can damage your computer, and make it slower. You won t need your recovery partition, as you ll use your Windows 7 disk

from videos. windows 7 is better and will use your cpu to is max. windows 7 is just like vista but vista is too slow and doesn t recognise your cpu usage as much. you can t update the recovery partition. once is gone, its gone.

Unless you will be using it with a multi-touch screen there really is no point in upgrading to Windows 7 when it comes out. Its just Visa with a multi-touch interface

Its just a repackaged vista like Windows 95 all the way to windows 2000.

solution, stop using windows all together and get a mac :) it worked for me, and it ll work for you too

Buy a new computer.

First, I am no longer a windows user. The main problems that I had with Vista is it a such a huge program and takes so much of your machine just to run it. It runs all these extras in the background and honestly, I just got tired of it. But I say you are right in deciding to wait and let some bugs get out of 7 first before you buy it. I don t know if I would wait for sp1 to come out or not though. I would look to the Microsoft site to see exactly what is going to change from Vista to the new OS. As far as the upgrade or clean install, I would choose the clean install. I upgraded my xp to vista and then later when I wanted to do a wipe and a fresh start, I had to reinstall xp and then reinstall vista. But as you say, as the upgrade goes most of your drivers will work and you will not have to install those after an upgrade. And then as you say your computer will be loaded up with junk by then anyway. So even though it will save you some trouble, I would do a clean install, especially since Dell s come with discs (or they did) and if not it is super easy to find any driver on Dell s website. A clean install would clear out the partition, if you so choose. When you go to install your new Windows, you will need to delete that partition, and then format your hard drive. Pay attention as to which file system your HDD drive is formatted. You may also choose to create a partition, for use of your liking. Like I said, when you go to install Windows, you may choose to do any of this. As far as using it as a partition for Windows recovery, you could set aside this partition and after you have installed widows you could set the destination folder or drive for your recovery files to be stored. As far as being more specific, I cannot because I have not seen this new OS yet. If you have any problems while installing or have a question, you may give Microsoft a call and they are usually helpful in this situation.

Internet Explorer 7, Windows Media issue!? -

When I updated to the IE 7, All the songs in my Windows Media show up, and consequently, PLAY twice! Any way to get the excess songs off of there all at once, short of going thru the file and deleting one of each- ONE by ONE??

(Jsmith above answerer has no idea what hes talking about, hes just a windows hater, if it didnt work, they wouldnt sell it) There is a fix for everything Jsmith, you just have to be patient enough to support it and figure it out. Opinions are not fact, and your answer did not help give this person a solution. The easiest way to do that... is to click on ONE song in your library, and then press CTRL+A this will highlight all your songs... Remove all the songs FROM YOUR LIBRARY ONLY, then rescan and re-add the songs to your library... It added duplicates probably because you got WMP11 installed. Just delete your library, and rescan for music, easiest way.

No consolation to you now, I know, but none of these new Windows programmes work. Beware of Windows Vista too - it just does not work.

press CTRL+A for all.

Whats Microsoft doing with windows 7 when even Vista is not stable still? -

and windows 7 looks very similar to vista too. And why is it called Windows 7?

Windows 7 is just a codename for the next Windows OS. It looks the same as Vista as they are currently working on internal issues. The visual side of things will be taken care of near the end of their work.

They ve pretty much decided to scrap Vista since it sucks. It only looks like vista because they haven t released or done any GUI work on it, they ve only done the core and coding as of yet. But Windows 7 will suck anyway, just get a mac.

no windows is stable. If you where concerned about stability, you would use Mac, just like a lot of the people that work for microsoft do.

Damn. Vista sucks monkey balls, for real. They need to get rid of it all together. Windows 7 is probably their hope for a cover up.

A question about Windows 7.? -

Will it be something that you can download? Or is it just an upgrade from XP? I have XP,so will I be able to download Windows 7? I m confused. Please help...

Windows 7 (Blackcomb/Vienna/7) is the next operating system up from Windows 6 (Vista/Longhorn/Blackcomb), which is the next operating system up from Windows XP (eXPerience/Whistler). Windows 7 is actually the 8th release of Windows NT, and the 12th release of Windows. Windows 7 is based on it s build number 7000 , the build number is currently 6933 , and about five month ago it was 6589 , so it ll be about half a month until the Windows 7 Pre-Beta, MileStone3, build 7000 , the 7 will represent the major number, that Microsoft will use for its name, however the team at Microsoft says that they might just hold on until the 3rd-30th of June 2008, and during the extra development, the build number might reach Windows 8000 , hence the fact that the name Windows 7 is not yet actually final, they hope to add the new technologies during the open, public betas of Windows 7, and Microsoft hopes that the betas will be public throughout beta-development. If you can t honestly wait, you could try downloading a torrent of the build 6801 . Check out this for features of 6933 : http://www.neowin.net/news/live/08/10/28... 32-Bit 6801 : http://dl.btjunkie.org/torrent/Microsoft... 64-Bit 6801 : http://dl.btjunkie.org/torrent/Microsoft... 6801 SuperBar enabler: http://www.withinwindows.com/2008/11/02/... Please purchase Windows 7 upon release, it ll hopefully please you, and be just as cheap (or cheaper) than Windows Vista.

no one knows and microsoft is not telling if anything it would be an quot;upgrade quot; from vista most likely regardless windows 7 would be so different than xp that you would be better with a clean install It would be highly unlikely by then that your computer would be adequate for windows 7 either in terms of specs and software drivers available don t lose sleep over system 7 yet

Well, its something you will buy in a store or online. It is an upgrade from Vista. Its a new OS version. Your computer will probably be able to use Windows 7. The fact that you use XP doesn t matter, what does matter is if your computer is able to support the OS. (Enough RAM. Enough space on Hard Drive.) You shouldn t worry. I ve heard Windows 7 isn t coming out for 1-2 years.

Windows 7 will be the successor to Windows Vista. Just like Windows Vista was to XP. It ll be able as any other release of Windows has been. It will cost you unless you re a student and your college/university is part of the Microsoft Academic Alliance.

Windows 7 will be an official windows version, so it will be the next version after vista. It will not be free, so you will have to pay full price for it. Just switch to Linux Mint. http://www.linuxmint.com/

You re not going to be able to download it.It will be an OS like XP and Vista,as far as upgrading, that remains to be seen.

How can i keep my windows vista on my computer with my windows 7? -

I need to keep all of my important files on my windows vista, but i want windows 7 also. I need to know how to put both of them on my same computer

I would have one or the other. But Windows 7 is not due to come out for a few months (full version, not the beta that came out Wednesday). But if you really wanted to (not advisable) you can put them both on separate partitions and duel boot them. Regards, Dane

You can dual boot by creating a separate partition for your new installation of windows 7. To do so from Windows Vista: right click quot;Computerquot;, click on quot;managequot; select quot;disk managementquot; from the left side Shrink the harddisk partition and the free or unallocated space should be however much you want to allocate to your new installation. Create a new partition from the unallocated space when you install windows 7, just select that partition in which you want to install in. After, you can select between Vista and Windows 7 keeping all your files intact.

This isn t a good idea. Even if you partition your drive, Windows 7 is a beta. I s not impossible for it to glitch and blow away your partition table. When running a beta, always put it on a computer you don t care about and make sure there s no important data on it.

This a tutorial on what your looking for. http://lifehacker.com/5126781/how-to-dua...

windows 7 is only a beta right now, i would not suggest getting it, u need to reinstall windows vista in august if you get it.

you can dual boot it get vistabootpro i tihnk its $10 now though or you can look up some other dual boots i just now that one works great thats what im using

Release date for Windows 7? -

I d really like to know because it sounds good. I want to ditch Vista, but I don t want to go back to XP if 7 is out soon.

Wikipedia says it will be about 2010: ---------------------- Windows 7 (formerly codenamed Blackcomb and Vienna) is the next version of Microsoft Windows and the successor to Windows Vista. Microsoft stated in 2007 that it is quot;scoping Windows 7 development to a three-year timeframequot;, and that quot;the specific release date will ultimately be determined by meeting the quality bar.quot; ---------------------- 2007 + 3 years = 2010... And that s just their best guess - the first Beta version isn t even out yet (though it s slated for a month or two from now) ;);););)

If you use Vista, not soon enough. You re probably better off going back to XP, because there s no guarantee that that Windows 7 isn t going to suck just as much as Vista. The release is still about a year away. But, they ll release betas, and Windows kool-aid drinking lemmings will download and install it, even if it breaks everything they do, and Microsoft gets a bazillion free testers of their system without having to pay for a lab. And I will continue to roll on the floor laughing.

Sometime in the end of 2009, No formal release date is given yet.

could be 2009 or 2010, depends if microsoft runs into any problems

How to uninstall/delete Internet explorert 7 from Windows Vista Home Premium and reinstall it ? Got no answe? -

Go to Start,Control Panel, add or remove programs then scroll down to Internet Explorer and click remove. I am sorry but I don t know how to reinstall it.

IE 7 is part of Service Pack 3 and can t be removed, period. Microsoft actually tells you that before you install it. Why, EXACTLY, do you think you need to un-install IE 7? Start by telling us all the weird stuff it s doing, for example, and maybe we can help you fix what s REALLY wrong. TIP: Stop using IE 7 and get Firefox, free from:

I think You have to go to the Microsoft Website, Redownload IE7 then Install it or you can try firefox, so you won t have anymore headches

Windows 7 is on the rise, so what happens to Vista users? -

Seriously, they re saying Windows 7 is basically a final version of Vista. Are Vista users going to get a free upgrade to Windows 7?? I d feel so ripped off if it didn t happen. At least Microsoft can release an update for Vista to make the performance on par with Windows 7.

Yes it s expected that Microsoft will provide most Vista users with free upgrades to Windows 7. But don t get your hopes up, XP will probably still be their best product.

Vista Home Premium/Ultimate are just fine, however when Windows 7 is released Vista will become very average, I have been working with Windows 7 (Builds 6801,6956 amp; 7000) It has the speed and stability of XP, and the looks and security of Vista. In short its everything Vista should have been from the outset and can t wait for the final release. I believe there will be an upgrade option, but as we are all aware the words Microsoft and Free do not go together in the same sentence. LUg.

Nothing - why would you expect anything to happen for Vista users? There was no free upgrade from Windows 3.1 to 3.11, to 95 to ME (yuck), to 98, to XP. There will be none for Vista to Windows 7. It s unfair to expect a company will just give out the new release. Too much cost in Ramp;D. Caveat Emptor. Just as an FYI, the Vista SP2 coming out this year does some have some of the stabilizations and features that will be in W7, but not many.

Well I guess you better feel ripped off because MS is not going to give you a free upgrade or copy of Windows 7. Live with it and if you want the new OS then buy it when it is released.

If I upgrade from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate, will I still get to keep all my extras? -

If I upgrade from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate, will I still get to keep all my Windows Vista Ultimate extras? - i.e. Bitlocker, Tinker, Dreamscene...

windows 7 beta 32 and 64 bit is available in ultimate form. i found it on mininova.com, but google can find more.

You ll only find out when windows 7 is released. its is only a beta (or alpha... i keep forgetting) release. You should know sometime next year.

is Wndows 7 out yet?

Windows Explorer 7 upgrade - how do I reverse it ? -

My computer installed the upgrade to Windows Explorer 7 automatically. ITS DREADFUL. Can anyone tell me how to uninstall it and return to the previous version ? The toolbar set up and screen is really annoying to use. Others may disagree but I prefer the previous version. Thanks.

Control Panel gt; Add/Remove Programs Find IE 7 and uninstall

Can I install Windows 7 on an empty hard drive partition? -

I want to install Windows 7 beta on my laptop and I have my entire D drive empty, is there a way of installing windows 7 on that partition without affecting the drive with vista on it?

tonyk- Hi, my name s Cody, and I m working with the Windows Outreach Team to help answer questions folks might have about their copy of the Windows 7 Beta. If you re looking to dual boot your copy of Windows Vista with the Windows 7 Beta, I d recommend checking out this easy to follow guide: http://lifehacker.com/5126781/how-to-dua... It ll walk you through the process. Good luck! Thanks, Cody Windows Outreach Team

yeah sure, but becarefull cuz windows vista doesnt allow two windows at the same time ,i think it will allow that but you will get some errors on the way, i personally suggest to you not to install windows 7,bcuz it is beta

http://news.cnet.com/Windows-7-Moving-be... All you want to know abut Windows 7

Yes, and you can choose when you want to boot from Vista or Windows 7. Just put Vista on C and Windows 7 on D. :)

How do I run Windows 7 Beta and Windows XP on the same computer but different hard drives? -

I have Windows 7 Beta on one hard drive and want XP on another hard drive, I installed XP on the other drive and it only booted XP up and when I tried to boot 7 up it said a file had to be re-installed, so i repaired it and 7 works again, but I can t use them both without one not working/booting up

I do what you do, all u have to do is change the pin on the hard drive so the comp can rezognize which harddrive is the master and which is the secondary. take a look on your hard drive, it shows u where to put the pin for master or secondary

you need to setup a dual boot system. Both op systems have to be on on same drive but in different partitions. So if you have only 1 partition then you must create a second for the windows 7. Or if you can`t do that then you can change the boot order in bios to boot from which drive you want to start, but you will have to do this each time you boot if you want to change op system. Your additional info means you must partition the sata drive a i said earlier. The run install for windows 7 and select 2nd partition as install drive.

Here is a great tutorial for dual booting as Johnny mentioned. I hope it helps. http://lifehacker.com/5126781/how-to-dua... Jeff Windows Outreach Team

Just go into the CMOS during boot and tell the BIOS which drive to boot from. This assumes you did a bootable install to each drive

What will windows-7 be like? -

I know that windows-7 hasn t bin launched yet but i wood too know what it be like. First of all will it be full of bug s like windows vista? And will it be youser friendly like windows XP? And last will it need as much up keep as all the other editions of windows or will it be low or no up keep like macintosh?

Itll be like vistas:bugless. maybe itll come with spell/grammar check too

Software- http://geektinkbreath.net/

The incomplete test versions of Windows 7 are already much better (faster, less bugs, etc) than any Vista version. Sorry, x1, if you truly believe Vista is bugless, then you ve never used it.

It will fix the crap from Vista. Less confusing Editions, Less annoying UAC, new start menu bar, and more.

Run Windows 7 in boot camp problem? -

I have a Macbook Pro (leopard) and I was going to run windows 7 in boot camp. I partitioned the drive and everything was going fine. I rebooted in the Windows 7 installer and it asked me what hard drive to use. I selected boot camp but it said not able to install because the partition is fat32, it needs NTFS. How do I accomplish this? I don t see an option for NTFS in the Boot Camp assistant installer, someone help please!!!

http://cnettv.cnet.com/2001-1_53-5000508...

I have installed windows 7 onto my computer, they are very particular on only installing on the Microsoft used hardware and file systems. You have to split your partition and make half of it NTFS if this is possible. Otherwise you cannot install!

I cant install windows 7? -

how to install windows 7(seven) I m using windows xp but I cant install it it says (Setup can not run on this version of the Operating System. To install Windows please try booting from the install media.

Are you really sure that you want to install a beta (test) version of your operating system. Beta versions are for computer experts and the software will have lots of problems which is why it is being tested. Also have you checked that your computer meets the minimum specifications needed for Windows 7? If you still want to go ahead then you need to burn the software you have downloaded onto a DVD ensuring that you make the DVD bootable - if what you have is an iso then don t worry you will be fine. Then reboot your computer with the disk in the drive. You should get a message to press any key to boot from the DVD - if you don t get that message then you need to go into your computers BIOS and change the boot order so that your DVD-ROM comes first in the list. If you don t know how to do that I would certainly question whether you are ready to run a beta OS on your computer AJ

Put the CD in the CDRom drive, Reboot the system Make sure that the bios is set to boot from a CD/DVD.

Windows 7 (The newest operating system from Microsoft)? -

Will windows 7 have the same system requirments as vista?

Microsoft cites the minimum hardware requirements for Windows Home Server as a 1GHz Pentium III (although a Pentium 4, AMD x64 or newer CPU is recommended) with 512MB of RAM.

Probably for the dumbed down initial release version. 7 is being touted as the next generation O/S that will revolutionize the PC industry. I know for fact that the next generation of pc s are already being tested and will probably be released first quarter next year. I am talking about different ram than we use now, different mother boards, and 8 core processors. Yes 8 core processors are already being tested and will likely be released first part of next ear. So we shall see what quot;7quot; will bring.

Windows 7 will supposedly have lower requirements than Vista, since it is being engineered to be much more lightweight and less resource intensive.

yes but it is touch screen

Hey guys, im duel booting vista and windows 7 beta.? -

My question is how do i get unallocated space from C, over to my new S drive? Thanks. (I AM RUNNING AS ADMININSTRATOR)

something about this question s got me confused. You re using 2 different drives, with 2 completely different disk spaces, and you re trying to unallocate space from one drive to another? or are you dealing with partitions? because you couldn t do that with drives. and partitions are pretty much made up once you install an OS on it. you really cant unallocate anything from a set partition. you can from raw space though.

http://lifehacker.com/5126781/how-to-dua...

As far as I can understand from you, you want to add (space or partition) to the S drive, you need to boot into Windows 7 Beta, go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management, and click on Disk Management, under the Storage... that s where you can see the free space and make it into a partition or add it to your new S partition.

Why wont yahoo beta mail let me in despite my downloading the Windows XP Explorer 7 update as directed? -

I have used Yahoo Beta mail for some time (it really is better!) but today it would not let me in, saying the browser was incompatible and referring me to free downloads. I spent ages downloading Windows XP update 7 Explorer but I still can t get into Yahoo Beta Mail. Can anyone help? Also it is frustrating that Yahoo do not appear to have a help phoneline in UK. Does anyone have it?

The Yahoo version is rubbish... download the old version back. Your wasting your time contacting Yahoo they ever reply!

How do I install windows programs in Ubuntu 7.04? -

I just installed Ubuntu on a dual boot Windows XP Pro machine. I have a lot of Windows programs I would like to install or run under Ubuntu. This is my first venture with Linux. Using Acronis Disk Director for dual boot purposes.

Most of the time you can t install windows programs in Ubuntu since Ubuntu is Linux based and the programs you maybe wanting to run is windows based. They aren t compatible most of the time. If you have any ubuntu/linux questions email at support@carbonfrost.com Its free email support to all. http://www.carbonfrost.com/

I ve had some limited success using the Wine package for Windows emulation. The best bet is to find Linux equivalents for your Windows software instead.

WINE is (not) an emulator that will allow to run SOME (actually quite some) windows programs under Linux. Keep in mind though that not all windows programs are supported, and that even those that are, some will not run with all features enables. You better check their information on www.winehq.org WINE does a pretty good job; and you can easily install it on Ubuntu using the package manager. Give it a try. That is the easies way to do it; but there are others. There are a few quot;virtualizationquot; programs that will let you run Windows as a complete operating system from within Linux. But these are more oriented to advanced users. A couple of these programs are VMware and VirtualBox. You re better off going to Ubuntu s forum too, you ll find a lot of information there and a lot of helpful people too.

The short answer is you can t. You can achieve nearly 100% equivalent functionality and speed. What kinds of programs? games? Office? (openoffice.org) browser? (firefox) operating systems lie between application programs (what you called programs) and the machine. Most programs are precompiled for faster execution, rather than interpreted (read line of source code, convert to machine language on the fly and then execute) - these compiles make assumptions about the operating system. violate the assumptions, and all bets are off. Often, the programs have equivalent versions for execution under Windows and Linux, but not always. So, the short answer to your question is, it depends .

What will the Windows 7 desktop interface look like? -

Microsoft say s it will be very diffrent from windows vista. Does this mean no start button or icons? Or does this mean no more using the mouse and keyboard. A touch screen would be nice, and talking and having the computer write what you say is cool. It this what microsoft is aiming for?

Hello, This means it ll look different. Like how Vista looked different from XP, and how XP looked different then 2000, etc. It ll be like a whole new theme .

microsoft is full of crapola =) their motto is to quot;take something existant and improvequot; however they just mess up the improving part alot,, whats wrong with the XP interface =) vistas all quot;fake applequot; and stuff, and for the life of me when when they improve the command line and not the desktop? isn t the desktop what always gets stuck when processes are high and memory is low anyway? maybe they fiXed that =); if u so desire to gawk at microsoft stuff that actually looks cool check out surface computing on the microsoft sight now thats cool,, to bad it s dropping under microsoft and not linuX or Apple=)

Need to uninstall windows 7? -

I installed windows 7 as the only os and now I need to uninstall it, do I buy an upgrade version of windows xp or the full version? I dont have a backup and hp dosen t have one for my model (slimline s7700y) Thanks!

Hi bluelink12@sbcglobal.net, My name is Ron. I’m a member of the Windows Outreach Team. Just saw your question and thought I’d pop in and try to help out a bit. First, I’d suggest that you try and find your original OS discs (that’d be the easiest fix). If you can’t locate the original discs you can purchase a new version of either Vista or XP. Note: Microsoft stopped shipping XP on June 30, 2008. That doesn’t mean they aren’t out there, they are just considerably harder to find, so Vista is your best bet and also has the most up-to-date suite of tools. What’s the make and model of your printer? I might be able to point you toward some driver information. Hope this helped a bit. Cheers, Ron Windows Outreach Team

you can t buy xp anymore. microsoft attempted to shove vista on everybody and discontinued it. you can take your chance with a used copy, i have seen some people selling those on craigslist. good luck, you can also try ubuntu, its a great os with a very appealing desktop if you have a decent videocard.

Best bet is to buy a fresh copy of WIndows XP. Just a tip. Next time, use a program like VMware. Virtual machine software lets you run the operating system while still inside the main os. It is your best bet on playing around with different operating systems, especially the ones in beta like WIndows 7.

you did not follow instructions you need a full version If Windows 7 is the only system it might be enough to simply format the hard drive and install a new operating system. It is always better to install a new operating system on a clean system. http://windows7news.com/2009/01/28/unins...

buy a retail full version of either xp or vista personally i prefer vista but if your comp doesn t have the right specs it is a waste of a good operating system.

How do i get the floating windows flag on internet explorer 7? -

how do i get the floating windows flag on internet explorer 7? like there is on internet explorer 6 and how do i get the history tab to stay on the explorer bar?

Sry, IE7 doesn t have the floaty flag in the upper right corner, like IE6 did. It was replaced by a blue-ish circle that shows up in the left corner of a tab. So, when you click into a new website, a tab will show the word quot;Connectingquot; and the blue thing will spin circles while it s locating the website (just like the flag waved while waiting for a website). Once the website is loaded, the blue circle disappears. Also, just above the blue Windows task bar at the bottom of your screen is the IE7 taskbar. When a site is loading, you ll see a progress bar that fills with green light as the download completes. To get your Favorites sidebar to stay put, click on the yellow star in the upper left corner. That ll open the Favorites sidebar. Then, you ll see the words Favorites, Feeds, History, and a little green arrow. Click on the little green arrow and that ll pin open the Favorites sidebar. Unless you close it, by clicking on the gray x, it ll now stay open every time you open IE7. Now, to get your History, click the History button and your history will stay pinned open.

Windows 7 Beta Install Question? -

Hi there, if I install the Public Beta of Windows 7 later on tonight, will my Vista installation still be there? Will there be an option to go back to Vista? Thanks now...

If what past beta OS s holds true, then, no. Windows7 will replace your Vista. You would need to re-install Vista if you want it back. Be careful.

Frankly, if you have to ask this question then you shouldn t be playing with a beta. Betas are for experienced pros. They ve been known to do things like format your hard drive, delete all your data and cause tons of problems. That s why they re betas. The beta version of an OS should be installed on hardware that s not used for anything else, and that you don t mind losing all data from.

I suggest against it, but you could try to dual boot it so you can test it.

Do I need the quot;Diagnose Connection Problemsquot; add-on in Internet Explorer 7, Windows XP? -

Hi, my name’s Cody, and I’m working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team to help answer questions that users might have about their copies of Internet Explorer. That add-on isn t required, but it is certainly a helpful tool for some users. I’d recommend updating to the latest version of the browser, Internet Explorer 8 RC1. This edition comes with quite a few more features than IE7, and the connection diagnosis feature is included standard. Here’s a link to the download: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/interne... I hope this was helpful! Thanks, Cody Internet Explorer Outreach Team

FROM MY EXPERIENCE WITH MY COMPUTER, YOU JUST GO TO YOUR EXISTING INTERNET AND GO TO THE WINDOWS HOME PAGE, THEN YOU LOOK AT INTERNET EXPLORER 7 AND CLICK ON THE DOWNLOAD HYPER LINK. IF THAT DOESNT WORK THEN IM SORRY. I TRIED.

I have windows xp and want windows 7 beta? -

what do i do august first when windows 7 expires please say in laymen s terms im not too advance3d with computer.

Sorry you can t. Windows 7 beta is only going to work if you have Vista SP1. It is an upgrade for Vista only. It is also only available for a limited time to the first 2.5 million people who download the beta.

You ll have to pull out your disk and reinstall it unless you made two partitions for each operating system.

You will have to reinstall XP from scratch.

I have a problem with windows 7? -

I have windows vista as well as windows 7 on my hard drive but whenever im booted into 7 my disc drive doesnt work. it s not shown on my computer either. When i go to the device manager it shows up but it says that there is a corrupted file of some sort. after searching for a while i found that it is probably a problem with the registry but I do not want to go messing my computer up by deleting random registry files. I can still use the drive in vista but 7 runs so much smoother and i like the interface more. if it werent for this problem then I would be in 7 all of the time. Thanks for the answers

No problems at this end although I see you have solved the issue. wizardmasterhp Windows 7 is nothing like Vista. For a Beta release it is incredibly stable. Have you tried it ?? Probably not ! LUG.

Unfortunately lots of people are having the same problem, i d suggest going to the microsoft update and see if there are any updates you need to download for it, which i doubt, download Firefox for now and just wait until Microsoft gets their Butts into gear and fixes it.

Windows 7 AKA Windows Vista (Yes they are one and the same) have constant issues with drives and memory ports I would suggest down grading your computer to Windows XP until the problems with Vista/7 have been fully worked out

Glad you found a solution wizardmasterhp isn t a programmer, he s a profaker!

Can i install windows 7 beta on a portable 80gb USB drive and boot from it when my system starts up? -

i have an 80GB NTFS portable drive. i m just wondering if i can install WINDOWS 7 BETA on it and boot from the USB external drive without it affecting my current installation of WINDOWS VISTA on my Notebook. ? if you know of a guide on how to do it, that would be handy, but if its just installing it on the portable drive as if it were a normal drive, i have no hang-ups with that. thanks

It will probably be a bit slow for installation because you re gonna use a USB 2.0 hard drive in NTFS format. I would just recommend installing it on Virtual PC.

Hi there. You can certainly install Windows on the external drive, but you will not be able to boot from it. The reason for this lies in the way that Windows loads drivers. As the drivers are loading, Windows will briefly re-initialize the USB ports and break the connection with the external drive. This will result in a BSOD. There is a tool called BartPE that may serve as a work-around to this issue. I ve never used it myself, but it s worth a look. I ve included a link below.

Yes but you have to change your BIOS settings to boot from portable device, it wont affect it in anyway this is called dual booting where your all. every systems layout is different but it usually starts with hitting the f2 or f12 while the computer is starting up. then follow the menu to BIOS and select boot from portable device.

Sure can. Boot to it. In BIOS, you will have to change the boot setting to Removable Device or something close to that.

Go into your bios and set the first boot device to usb.

Anyone else using windows 7? Mine still hangs and locks. How bout yours? -

you obviously do not know what the word beta means. windows 7 is a beta product and beta products should never be installed on your main computer unless you are capable of undoing the damage they can and probably will cause to your computer. beta products are for testing only usually by beta testers who report back they re findings they are not realy for everybody. did you not read the warnings before you put this on your machine or did you just choose to ignore them. ?

Windows 7 is a BETA and there is got to be glitches here and there also with you computer it might have a unique problem that Microsoft hasten t buffed out yet.

No hangs, no locks - fine running in a virtual machine in VMWare. This is this just a test machine you re running on....right? What are you doing when it hangs? Remember this is beta....

Whats up with Windows 7? -

Hey all!! Okay, well I have been hearing a lot about quot;Windows 7quot; as the newest OS from Microsoft. I heard of it before in May or something, and I didn t think that it was true. What is it? I tried looking it up on the Microsoft website and it showed no results. Is it just a rumor? Or is it in the process of being releases? And is quot;Windows 7quot; the working title for this OS? Thanks!

Windows 7 will actually be out MAYBE late 2009 but most likely 2010. Check it out here. http://reviews.cnet.com/windows/windows-... They call it windows 7 because it is the quot;7th version of windowsquot;.

Apparently Microsoft is coming out with a new OS, and it is REALLY named Windows 7 . It was stated to be launched in 2010, but it may get pushed up to late 2009. To learn more you could search maximumpc.com for windows 7. Here s a link to get you started: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/ta...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7

windows 7 should be mid or late 2009

About windows 7 from microsoft its stuff? -

Why Windows 7 look same like Vista ? and Whats the point if they comming with the same windows which is faster ? can they just rebuild the vista just not named it a new windows ?

So many people have been whining about Vista that it makes sense to get away from that name altogether. (i think that most of the whining is unfair)

Seven (7!) windows in my living room! Need economical window dressing ideas!? -

These are narrow, about 18quot; wide and 5 feet tall. Standard 8-ft ceiling. 3 windows on side wall, 4 on street side, with 3-1/2 feet between them. 1 window on each wall gets covered by a door when it s open, so nothing that sticks out very far will work. Privacy needed, but don t want to loose the daylight. Have left the previous owners mini-blinds up there quot;temporarilyquot; for 5 years - time to do something wonderful. But everything I come up with costs about $200 per window and that s too much times seven!!! I am crafty, and my style is traditional-transitional-eclectic, so I m open to suggestions. Any great ideas?

Have you thought about frosting them. I have 3 windows on each side of my door. I bought this frosted spray paint at the hardware store, sprayed them and put a valence made from bamboo place mats. It looks awesome. I still get light, but I have privacy. If you are creative, you could even put stencils on the window and create a design with it. They also had a glass etching kit that might interest you. Another idea is to create stained glass windows ck craft stores for lead and paints. Also, you could make roman blinds (check out HGTV website for how to make info and some other great decorating ideas). Some fabric stores have a discount fabric section. I have found some great fabrics for curtains. You could probably find some fabric for your roman shades there as well. If you don t sew, there are some iron-on tapes for hemming. Hope that i helped. Good Luck!

I hear that windows like to wear short sleeve, bright colored tops and khaki shorts for the springtime.

You can use your old bedsheets in making curtains use bed sheets on the both side of blinds and sew them with hand use ribbons (if have sarrees than use the borders of that) or borders of the bsheets to highlight the curtains, use strings to fold the blinds like in rommanblinds. try this out it will save your money and will be unique in looks.

Leave the blinds for privacy. You could do the long scarves over the windows, it would take approximately 35 yards of fabric. But if you buy a continuous fabric, and buy at a Joann s fabric you can get a 50% off coupon to buy one continuous piece of fabric. This would let you select your own choice of fabric. If the fabric is really wide (54quot;) you could get away with 20 yards buy splitting it lengthwise. Each window should take about 5 yards and you will have to hem the edge that you cut and the ends. Go to Home depot or Lowe s for rings that can be mounted flat to the wall on each top corner of the window to loop the fabric through. It should go from the floor up through the loop droop across in front of the window and through the other loop and back to the floor. I calculated 2 yards floor to top of window on each side and one yard across (but I think you could economize by about 1 foot at the top since the windows are only 18quot; wide. It won t need that much sag. You could always search Thrift stores. Sometimes you can find really great deals.

Windows 7 is running extremely slow on my PC. What am I doing wrong? -

I have just installed Windows 7 Beta 7000 on the following machine, which I use as my media computer: Intel Celeron 2.4GHz 1.25GB RAM 40GB HD nVidia GeForce 6200 256MB AGP Atheros WiFi Windows 7 installs, but anything video intensive makes the system crawl. Turning off Aero helps, but doesn t completely remedy the problem. Full-screen video is out of the question, both YouTube and Windows Media Player. I ran the experience program, but the experience index came back with a shocking 1.3, with 1.3 being the rating of the CPU. The graphics came back around 2.0, which should be enough to run Aero. I know W7 runs great on netbooks with supposedly lower specs. Is the old Celeron simply so old that it s missing an instruction set? Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks!

Understand that the current release of Windows 7 is a Beta. This type of issue is sometimes present in the beginning stages of an Operating System Beta versions.

Well......... windows 7 is still beta... it s supposed you should have that kind of problems... try to reinstall maybe it goes well..

I d say re-download it and check your ram.

Intel Celeron sucks, you need more RAM, your HD is probably old as hell and slow, and your graphics card is crap.

Will I have to install my old OS when the Windows 7 Beta is over? -

Once the beta is over for Windows 7, does that mean I will have to install my old Operating System (Windows Vista). If I do, will it erase all my data from my computer?

Hello azn boi- My name is Jeff and I work with the Windows Outreach Team. If you upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Beta, you will have to reinstall Vista once Aug. 1 comes around. There are no plans to extend this deadline at the moment. If you dual booted, then you will have to re-partition your HD to revert to your previous OS. Either way, it is important that you back up your computer before trying out beta software. If you did this before trying Windows 7 Beta you should not have to worry about losing files. When Windows 7 is finally released, I urge you to acquire a legitimate copy of the software. Pirated versions can be riddled with viruses and cause serious damage to your computer. If you have any more installation related questions, check out this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... Jeff Windows Outreach Team

You will have to reinstall a different OS on your computer. And since anything you put on will be a quot;downgradequot;, you will have to reformat the drive (wiping everything) to put it on.

NO, you wont have to. They will offer you around 60 days to get a serial number for Windows 7 and then if you don t buy one then YES you will have to delete everything.

yes u have..!! and its will earse all of data

Yes, unless you buy (or pirate) windows 7

Where will i be going to download/register this windows 7 Beta Build 7000? -

I was wondering if there is a URL that i can be ready to go to to download this Windows 7 Beta build 7000 tomorrow.

mdsn.com

Hi, If you are a registered BETA user then you can all ready download Windows 7 Beta via their technet and msdn sites. However, the rest of us have to wait till Friday 9th January. The official Homepage of Windows - 7 (Beta) can be found here: ??http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows... On Friday Microsoft will open 2.5 million slots for initial downloads of the BETA file from this website. Things to note though: 1. You need to have Vista with Service Pack 1 installed in order to be able to upgrade to the Beta version of Windows-7 2. The BETA version of Windows-7 is intended to expire in August so be prepared to revert back to Vista SP1 at some point. Regards, TgTips

You should see a notice tomorrow in the Windows 7 newsletter. here. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...

Probably on microsoft.com
